Music genres that I have never listened to before

So this moderator said this to me a while back, and Ive been kinda wondering how these genres that he mentioned sound like. Ive never heard them before.

Thanks that sounded quite interesting. I didnt like the repetitive sound though. Definitely not something I'd listen to regularly Im afraid. But do you know any nice IDM or third stream songs I could check out as well?

Please keep in mind any tracks I post in this thread are simply to give you a rough idea of what that style of music sounds like. Don't dismiss whole genres of music just because you didn't like the one song I happened to choose as an example.

Anyway, The first one sounded pretty weird to me because of all the random electronic sounds present in it. The second third stream one was very nice although it was also very short. I'd be glad to check out an entire third stream album rather than just one song. Tell me though, are all third stream songs are short like that?

Heh. Autechre is the opposite of random. Their tracks actually very structured, it's just that the structure is usually fairly complex.

No, not all third stream songs are short. It's a hybrid of jazz and classical, so as you might imagine, it has plenty of longer pieces. Actually if the track I posted piqued your interest you might want to try checking out the album it's from, Impressions on Chopin's Nocturnes by Jacques Loussier. It's definitely an album that works best listened to whole. Even better than that though, in my opinion, the Nikolai Kapustin album Piano Music (performed by Marc-Andre Hamelin), which is just amazing. Also, not all third stream is piano music by any means. Check out Bill Russo's School of Rebellion for more a full band, horn-based take on the style.

Yes I truly liked it. I'll download these albums that you mentioned if I can find them online somewhere. Also glad to hear that not all third stream songs are short, if they were I'd be quite disappointed to be honest.

Also keep in mind the diversity within every genre: a single song from any given artist is just not sufficient enough to found an opinion on.
