All my leads on new bands come from random internet sources(I honestly can't think of the last time someone in real life suggested something I didn't know already), as far as which song I listen to first either A.)whatever the first track by them that comes up on a Google video search or B.) whichever album on Spotify has the most interesting cover. if I like what I hear I'll go through their entire discography in random order.

It was just an example. He probably just meant that there are people who listen to albums and select their favorite songs out of the albums they heard.

I kinda go all over the place, a lot of the time it comes from random recommendations from people I know but sometimes I'll just read or hear the name of an artist and listen to some of their stuff a couple weeks later.

Lately, I peruse forums such as this and see what bands I see as intriguing. Once I find a band I'm interested in hearing, I usually look for what people consider the best album. I often refer to AMG and go by the album that is listed as an album pick or rated highly. I also use Last.fm a bit or Amazon. Honest user reviews there can help quite a bit, especially with newer music where a longtime fan will often rank a current album with respect to the discography.

Of course it is all for better or worse. Youtube is useful for trying stuff out, too.

I like albums, so I've all but quit using greatest hits unless I am looking at some pop musician that has never been known for albums. One high quality album gets me going more than a bunch of hits.
