The Empryean is the solo album of Ex- Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante.
The Empryean cover is based on the Greek term Empryean which describes the highest area of heaven which is believed to be solely on fire or bathed in intense light.
The cover of the album I believe depicts Frusciantes life, as the indicates his life before his fall into heavy heroine abuse which almost ended in him dying in a house fire whilst intoxicated and is now badly scarred from injection points which caused abscesses along his arms, this collision course is shown by the image below that which is a collage of pictures of him falling dressed as an angel.
The bottom being the 'hole' he was stuck in until he reformed; causing a large spiritual shift in Frusciantes logic, and is seemingly on a path of correction and enlightenment towards the castle high above the clouds in the image.

The whole piece is a collage of images used to create a landscape of his life.

Yeah, but here's the real question...

What's the meaning of the album cover?

I just discovered this guy's work a few weeks ago. While I'm not a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I thoroughly enjoyed his debut solo album, Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt (1994). It contains some really interesting and loose lo-fi folk songs... some of which end up being more avant-garde than others.

When I was deeply into 90s lo-fi rock music, I also loved that album. Then he made like 15 more and kicked heroin (I forget in which order) and it got sort of old. But I think the guy is a good musician and I even like The Empryean quite a bit when I'm in the right mood. More to the point, I still agree that his first solo album is really good.

Dudes,

Check out the ATOMS FOR PEACE debut.

Frusciante is one of the members of this new 'supergroup'- which is Tom Yorke's baby.

The album is out on Monday 25th Feb :-)
