Some great songs coming together on this thread ! Well done, PoorOldPo. I particularly like The Wolfe Tones; Some Say The Devil and Follow Me Up To Carlow.

Didn´t realize there were so many Irish Battalions fighting in the New World. Here´s a song about the strange, honourable and sad San Patricios Battalion. If you don´t mind listening to one thing while reading another, you can learn about an often overlooked episode in the American war against Mexico:-

OK, I´ve posted this before in one of VEGANGELICA´s threads, but it´s such a faultless performance of such a good song that I think it´s worth repeating :-

Wow.... They were both incredibly beautiful. I have never heard of them, but I am keeping them close now! Gonna share those with some of my friends. The second one is really sad! As is the first one at that, gave me goosebmumps.

Yeah apparently loads of Irish fought in South American wars, mostly on the side fighting for independance. Places that I remember are Venezuala, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico,

Since we're now doing sad "rebel" songs, here are two I love...

(This one is bitterly appropriate to the Ireland of today...)

And I love the story in this one. They don't write 'em like these any more!

Yes, Happy St. Patrick´s Day to you both !
I´m out of clips just now, but you´ve posted plenty to be going on with ...

I´m very pleased that you enjoyed the Arthur McBride song. The lyrics are so good, I smile every time I hear them. Did you catch the stuff about the clothes, "...you´ve only the lend of them as I suppose" ? And other highlights like the thin gruel in the morning, the trusty shillelagh, and what they did with the drummer boy´s drum, " ... and bade it a tedious returning".

Well, I´m going back to some of the clips I skipped earlier, and meantime will be waiting for you to publish the definitive book, " A Musical Celebration Of Irish Military History."
