How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?

FD said something that interested me:

I really don't know anyone who knows all of my taste in music. When I was younger I think my brother knew a lot of what I listen to, even though I would surprise him with a new band every once in a while. Our taste in music diverged and he knows stuff I don't know and vice versa. I tend to talk about music the other person is into, thinking they are not interested in what I like. And I am by no means an expert, I always come across fans (of a particular artist) that know a lot more than I do.

(I guess you can expand your answer if you want.)

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?
I think other people know well about my taste in music. Not many of my 'online' friends do which is one reason why I registered here - because I felt like they were mostly just into whatever they'd heard on the top charts these days but my musical interest goes beyond that. I'm sick of posting around the musically inclined or people who just don't understand music in the way that I do. It's like they have one opinion on music and that is that it's deemed as good and they like it but that's just not enough for me. Anyway, I got off topic with this question. By some, I've been asked for a song for __ or __. If you know what I mean. It's flattering, but it's annoying all the same because they're too lazy to be educated

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?
My sister is the only one who knows this (mostly) because she's the only one who has actually cared enough knowing that music is so important to me.

Are you know for being really into music?
By most. I've probably expressed it too much publicly.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?
Even if I were, I'm not sure I have the confidence to admit it.

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?

Not well at all. The people who know me best know I listen to wider variety of music than people in my age group. Most people I know only use music as something to have going on in the background while they work. It's really not a life pursuit or life altering factor for them as it is for me.

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?

No one. Sad to say. It would be nice to have someone offline to chat & share similar interests with music, or even take an interest in music though our tastes are different.

Are you know for being really into music?

Mostly I'm not known at all (loner) but those who know me in the least know I'm music-crazed.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?

Not really, more an aficionado on being eclectic, if such a thing exists.

Not well. People who know me know I'm really into music but my friends and family generally only know a little sliver of what I listen to. When people ask my wife what I listen to she just tells them "punk", which always makes me laugh.

I would say no one here(I've relocated to hillbilly hell recently) knows anything about my personal taste in music, some of my friends do. Once at work, I mentioned wanting to see Ra Ra Riot, who were playing close by, and no one knew what I was talking about. These are young college-aged kids. Anytime I discuss music with people I get quizzical looks.

Of course, my spouse(he's actually very knowledgeable about music in ways I am not)does, and he hates most of it. We're from different eras so it's expected. We are both into music. It's nice because we understand one another obsessions, even though we may not like those obsessions. I would say my online friends know the most about my musical palette. That's why I joined here!

I tend to get a bit nuts over bands. I'm sure I've mentioned Vampire Weekend a time, or two. If not let me express some genuine excitement that in a few days their third album is going to be released. Eeek!

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?

I know very few people right now that I've actually kept in touch with long enough to consider them friends, and strangers only find out if they ask (I'm very shy).

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?

Two very important people in my life: Ki (the love of my life), and my little sister (who grew up listening to some great music).

Are you know for being really into music?

People who are very close to me are aware that it's pretty much all I ever think about.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?

I'm kind of obsessed with one band in particular, but we don't need to revisit that territory.

I was a bit liberal in my statement of "all" of my music tastes in that I could never actually keep up with informing even my closest of friends about every single perception I have for every single genre I come across. I do leave things out that I don't consider to be of much importance. But generally speaking, I do only have a couple friends and family members that know the meat and potatoes.

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?
Like I said, very few. Most just assume (White guy with a tattoo... must listen to rock), or even those that have a general idea, still only have a general idea.

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?
Piotr13 probably has the best idea in terms of emotional and stylistic inclinations in all genres. My sisters know all of my Electronic inclinations. My dad knows all of the variety, but little of the emotional and stylistic aspects. The sheer totality of all factors is known only to myself. I could have said different 15 years ago when my waking life was spent next to childhood friends and care-free, uncensored sharing of absolutely every aspect. It's hard to be on that level these days. More important things tend to take the stage.

Are you known for being really into music?
Depends on the context. If you walk into my apartment and into my room and have never met me prior, there is little doubt I am into music. If you see me on the street, you would never know. The in-between is variable. Only a few really know most of the story.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?

Certain genres, yea. Certain bands, somewhat. I generally don't try to absorb information about a particular band that isn't useful to me, however I do absorb information about a genre, simply as a byproduct of being exposed to it stylistically. I don't really set out to know everything about a band or genre. I just listen to what I like, and whatever results from that is incidental.

I don't really think it needs to go further than that. Not being a simple music listener. Although, the lines do shift being a music maker. It's two separate approaches entirely, but to what degree, that is all preference.

I'm known for being into Old School Hip Hop and R&B. Everyone around me knows that I listen to this 95% of the time. The music now-a-days are not the same as it was in the 70s and 80s.

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?

Not well at all actually. Most people in my life tend to generalize it as "hipster" music because they don't usually know what it is. I've been known as a punk kid, a folk kid, an indie kid, but other people just kind of see me as the kid who loves music and listens to a lot of obscure stuff.

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?

No one really, but my best friend in real life is very close. I show her a lot of my stuff and she tends to enjoy it. Although I usually am very picky with what I show her and what I show everyone.

Are you known for being really into music?

Pretty much yeah, I'm the person my friends go to if they want something. Or to ask if I have heard of some song that they don't know the title of.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?

Aficionado is too far. I definitely wouldn't say that. I know a lot about certain genres, but I'm no expert.

How Well Would You Say That Other People Know Your Taste In Music?

On a scale of one to ten my friends would be at a 6 and my family would be at a 3. My mom still thinks I only listen to Bright Eyes, my siblings think I listen to "hippie music," and my friends think I listen to anything with a banjo.

Who is the person or persons that know about all/mostly all of your taste in music?

My roommate and I share similar taste, especially in hip hop and folk music. Also I have good speakers in my bedroom so she pretty much hears most of what I listen to anyway.

Are you know for being really into music?

Yep.

Do you consider yourself an aficionado on any band or genre?

Not at all. I do think I'm pretty good at gauging other peoples tastes and then introducing them to other bands or genres, though. I can often be heard saying something along the lines of "Oh you like X? I bet you would really like Y and Z. Let me make you a mixtape."
