Okay.

I came up with a situation where someone could listen to a normal song over and over (like 7 times) without something unhealthy going on: if he or she is a musician who is trying to learn it. Although I don't know how many musicians use that technique and don't know if that would be a good way to learn.

I can't listen to a song more than once in a row. Usually I listen to my playlist once a day or maybe once every few days then I'm off trying to discover something else. I prefer listening to songs that feel fresh. Otherwise it just becomes redundant which is a turn off for me.

A roomy of mine picks a handful of songs and plays it over and over and over again for about a week. Then she picks another bunch of songs and does the same. Besides being horrible songs it drives me insane. I have to block it by putting my headphones on.

She's been playing the whole Eamon Frankee diss songs lately. Yeah, it's irritating as hell.

Or he or she is not a musician and perfectly healthy with nothing unhealthy or even abnormal going on and just really likes the song.

Instead of inventing a situation to psycho analyse just because you WANT there to be something wrong with such a person and absolutely refuse logical and sound arguments (non of which agrees with you), why not find somebody who does do this and ask them?

No one I'm personally friendly with does that, as far as I know. I've asked here - no real answer. With the exception of listening for training purposes or something like that, at some point - maybe 7 consecutive active listens (of a song that isn't very short) - it's so excessive that something unhealthy must be going on - can we agree on that?

No, because there is 0 basis that it is because of something unhealthy going on.

Just because what few people you interacted with out of the billions on this planet don't doesn't mean it inherently is unnatural or a sign of anything unhealthy.

Most songs behave like a bubble. They hit and disappear soon.

charkoustic 06-16-2013 02:12 PM

I try to find the sweet spot with a new song that I really like -- play it enough that it's in my head but not TOO much where I overplay it. I might purposely avoid the song / album for a few weeks just to let it settle in.

Because once it goes into "overplay" mode, I burned myself out and it could take months, maybe years before I can truly enjoy the song / album again.

I sometimes listen to a song over and over when I first discover a particular artist or band that I like. Other than that I hardly ever listen to a song more than once that I am familiar with.

Black Francis 03-01-2014 10:57 AM

im gonna listen to this song all day and tomorrow im gonna listen to their next song 'second of the month'

Dylstew 03-01-2014 12:05 PM

I've had it with a few song for a while, but generally speaking, no. It ususally happens when I have the same song stuck in my head all day.

This is one of them it happened to on a certian day:

Sublime - What I Got - YouTube

It makes me happy :3. I also like how I can sing along, it's in my vocal range, since it's not high :D, unlike some other bands I listen to...

Pet_Sounds 03-01-2014 12:41 PM

Very rarely. But there have been two exceptions:
Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles
I listened to the Blue Album on YouTube when I was just getting into them. I played this four times consecutive!
Light My Fire - The Doors
Heard it on the return flight from Germany. Upon arrival, I found it on Youtube and listened three times in a row!

Oh I listen to the same songs over and over ALL the time! Basically anything radio-friendly I play all the time.

Suit and Tie....Thrift Shop....Last Child....Satisfaction....Radioactive....

Psychedub Dude 03-01-2014 08:37 PM

I'm definitely guilty of this, especially when I hear a really good song for the first time. It's not over and over but I'll listen to the same song quite a few times in one day.

Isbjørn 03-04-2014 02:31 PM

I tend to avoid listening to a song over and over in fear of getting tired of it. Still, sometimes I can't resist. It used to be F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. by The Fall of Troy, and more recently it was Want by Jawbreaker.

Spanish fly times a million

LondonGirl 03-08-2014 02:27 PM

Yes I do this most of the time too. I listen to the same album on repeat too - I can this for up to a month without getting bored!

Oh I've developed the same fear too. I just can't help myself some times though, listening to a song over and over.

Annie1 03-10-2014 06:28 PM

If I really really like the song then I will. Or if it has a good beat to it I will. I am so guilty of this.

SansCranium 03-10-2014 07:22 PM

I can't get enough of Sea Legs by Run the Jewels. Played it 6 times in a row last night and twice today. That hook is insane!

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 03-10-2014 07:37 PM

Shortly after I bought Surrealistic Pillow I must have listened to How Do You Feel at least 10 times in a row. I think I fell asleep to it with the earphones on and my CD player on repeat mode.

I love that album so much.
When I first got to hear it, I got stuck on "Today"
and listened to that song like a million times

Dylstew 03-11-2014 12:00 AM

I keep doing it with this song:

The King Blues - Mr. Musicman - YouTube

neardeathexperience 03-11-2014 06:27 AM

I listened to "Little Red Riding Hood numerous times just because it sounded so good over and over and over.............

MarliQQ 03-12-2014 10:42 PM

I do this often, or I make an extremely small playlist of about 5 songs I can't get enough of, and I play it in to the dirt. This is probably why I have to consistently add new songs to my library like every other week. I get tired of my old stuff. I eventually get around to playing them in "normal rotation" after some time.

Kartoffelbrei 03-12-2014 10:46 PM

I did this today, with SOAD's "Vicinity"
I think my neighbours were like "WTF?",
as they heard me shout "BANANA BANANA BANANA BANANA TERRACOTTA BANANA TERRACOTTA TERRACOTTA PIE!" for minimum an hour, lol
