That's very nice, but I have the most open and flexible mind of almost everyone I know.
Musicians need to analyze things like you said..

Just because they're doing "constant listening" doesn't mean they're necessarily trying to block out anything or have strange thoughts running through their heads.

How one could even jump to that conclusion must require a blindfold, a large leap and a strong gust of wind...

That was Freud's primary problem.

I mean by that, you could easily say that the shufflers are indecisive and that the ones who listen to the same song over and over have an inability to move on or progress and are adverse to change.

I don't do it with any songs, but I do tend to play my favourite albums over and over.

I will get like this in a way. Sometimes I get on kicks where I just listen to the same 3 or 4 albums, or at least listen to them primarily. I can't do a single album like this though.

If I listen to something more than once or twice in a row, I get attenuated to it and it fades out as backround noise.

When I'm editing, I'll listen to a tune probably 10-20 times or more, but that doesn't count does it.

I've actually listened to this tune on repeat with volume full blast in the car on my way home from work a few times:

The Feud - It Ain't Right (Official Music Video) - YouTube

That beat...

If - as I had in mind - someone is awake and listening to a song over and over while not doing anything else, that doesn't seem normal, does it? Drug involvement, perhaps? Nobody would watch the same TV episode three times in a row, heh, unless it was porn or something. Is listening to a song over and over like watching a looping cat video?

How would drug involvement be a contributing factor? Some people like to listen to the same song over and over again because they like to listen to the same song over and over again. While I normally don't do that I know some who do. Who's to say whether it's normal or not?

A lot of times I dont want the song to end - im enjoying it too much so repeat is the quick fix.

sopsych 06-14-2013 02:02 PM

I never knew anyone to do it until a few years ago. If I had grown up around people who did it, my opinion might be different.
