Quite Anal, as I have a Squeezebox.
I usually use Mp3Tag to tag my Mp3's as efficiently as possible.
So at least the album, artist, track number and track title should be a-ok.
Making sure they're all exactly the same, case-sensitive, because the Squeezebox will show three bands if I type "Belle and Sebastian", "belle and sebastian" and "Belle & Sebastian". Which sucks.

As someone who grew up in an era where tags were the labels on clothes I'm not in the least anal about this. I hate if the tags are absent (nothing worse than track 1 unknown artist etc) but as long as the basics are there --- artiste, title, album and the tracks are in numerical NOT alphabetical order (unless for some bizarre reason they coinicide) --- I really couldn't care less about year, producer, label, genre or any of the rest of that minutiae that you are all getting bent out of shape about.

Life's too short. Well, mine is, anyway... :p:

Oh, but spelling is important and if EVERYTHING IS CAPITALISED I'll change that.

Oh, that reminds me of something else I forgot to ask about...

What do you guys do about "stylised" names? Example, a band I listen to from Taiwan is Chthonic; often times it is stylised as ChthoniC. Stuff like this I never do and just write it as Chthonic; the only time I will is when the style is actually important to the name (so far I have yet to come across such a case with the exception of the Havoc Unit album, "hIV+" ).

Also, if a band's song titles are in a different language, how do you do this?

For example, would you list a German song called "Party über Alles" as über, ueber, or uber? I go with the proper spelling (über). Also with bands like Mop (pronounced Mor, they're Russian), I will use Cyrillic characters rather than the Anglicised spelling (same for Asian languages).

I use whatever spelling or style the band specifies in their chosen language.

I come from the days of DOS, so I always use my own directory structure, no MyMusic, or Mythis or Mythat, and as far as tags I use ID3V2 with proper spelling, and always fill in as much info as possible.

No iTunes, or ianything. Can't stand having to conform to their standards. I like open architecture.

I don't use iTunes either or any other library software. I do have a database program, but that is strictly ffor searching my collection (which has gotten fairly large).

I'm pretty anal about consistency in my iTunes Library, but not this anal.

I use iTunes, so all the usual fields should be filled in. I am trying to get better about using Album Artist, too, so that tracks will sort properly when a song has more than one singer. I used to just redo the song title to include the guest artist.

Ex: iTunes might want to label "Airplanes" as artist BoB & Hayley Williams.

I used to just remove Hayley and make the song title instead read "Airplanes (w/ Hayley Williams)".
______

Count me as another one who makes sure to use the Disc # field instead of letting the album be named [Disc 1], etc.
