Your Favorite/Recommend an Instrumental Track
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some good instrumental tracks. It looks like we've got 1000 threads talking about them, but no recommendations. I'm making a list to play at work on Spotify and I've got the tracks listed currently.
1. Orion - Rodrigo y Gabriela 2. South of Heaven's Chanting Mermaids - Rodrigo y Gabriela 3. Big Sur Moon - Buckethead 4. Juan Loco - Rodrigo y Gabriela 5. Oogie Boogie's Song - Rodrigo y Gabriela 6. Eastwood - Brad Paisley 7. Wildcat - Ratatat 8. Christmas Eve/Sarajevo - Trans-Siberian Orchestra 9. Ghost of Congo Square - Terence Blanchard 10. Radio Station - Terence Blanchard 11. Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet 12. Soul'd Lang Syne - Los Straightjackets 13. Over the Rainbow - Chet Baker 14. Smells like Teen Spirit - The Bad Plus 15. Rumble - Link Wray 16. Invention in C minor - Billy Joel 17. Leyenda (Albeniz) - Adres Segovia 18. Santo Domingo (feat. C.U.B.A.) - Rodrigo y Gabriela 19. The Call of Ktulu (Live with the SFSO) - Metallica 20. In the Hall of the Mountain King - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross 21. Stairway to Heaven - Rodrigo y Gabriela 22. Freddie Freeloader - Miles Davis 23. Blue in Green - Miles Davis 24. The Wind the Shake the Barley - The Chieftains 25. The Exstacy of Gold (Live with the SFSO) - Metallica 26. Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn Any additional suggestions are appreciated. I listed these to primarily show that anything counts and what I'm currently working with. No real parameters other than the track needs to be 98% wordless. |
It's a bit long, but I love this one from Ice Age....
(listen for the "2001" snippet near the end!) |
This SRV shows the soft side, one of my favorite.
|
My all time favorite instrumental is Apache (1960) by the British band the Shadows. Besides being a Buddy Holly look-alike, lead guitarist Hank Marvin was brilliant player who laid the groundwork for surf guitar.
|
Dig through some soundtracks for movies that you like and pull your favorite tracks. This one I posted happened to be from the Halo 4 soundtrack but it's my fave. I know I talk/post a lot about Joe Satriani but I really love his work. |
The Mermen, one of the best 3rd wave surf instrumental groups. Daniel Bachman, appalachian psychedelic |
Here is a 1971 instrumental from Focus II (aka Moving Waves), the second album by Dutch rock group Focus. Good one to have in your collection.
|
Quite a big umbrella term, here's a few I'm fond of:
Ornette Coleman - Lonely Woman Frank Zappa - We Are Not Alone miRthkon - Daddylonglegz Earth - The Driver |
I could recommend so many tracks but they are in wildly different genres so don't really know where to start.
Cheese (but I like it): Heavy: Folk: Balearic chillout: Math Rock via Krautrock: A Punk band does Piano: |
The actual song is an instrumental, nice relaxing Saxophone song from 1990.
Soul II Soul - Courtney Blows |

Alan Licht. Saw this guy play an in-store gig, he was fantastic.

The Chinese restaurant always has this playing:
Journey, When you love a Woman, Piano Instrumental - YouTube |
Wow, you guys are great. Please keep them coming.
And don't pay attention to my list - you should just list your favorite. |

This thread is making my phone act crazy. I will type out a reply then it takes it away from mein the middle of typing and scrolls up to a video.
Overjoyed by Stevie Wonder made a good instrumental, IMO. |

BTW. isn't there a "Text Only" option? |
^yea, the Quick Reply is what I usually use!..

My personal favorite is "embryonic journey", by Jefferson Airplane (more specifically by their guitar virtuoso Jorma Kaukonen).
You could also throw SRV's "Lenny" on the list (love Little Wing, but that's really more Hendrix). Zeppelin's got a few but my favorite is "Bron-yr-aur" (not to be confused with Bron-yr-aur stomp). I saw you like Rodrigo y Gabriela but you didn't include "Tamacun". Find a video of them playing it live. Asombroso! |
Genesis - Second Home by the Sea - YouTube (though there are lyrics at the very end) Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream - YouTube I always endorse "Lily was Here." |
anything by Buckethead, anything by John 5 and Snuffys VCR by Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids.
|
"Night Lights"—classic stuff from Uli Jon Roth-era Scorpions. |
"Rushed Love" by Gustavo Dal Farra:
He's playing on a 5 string electric bass, no overdubs! |
Quality
Some quality tunes here- glad I stumbled across this blog
|
Can't find Joe Satriani on youtube though- has it been removed?
|
Maybe its me, but I find Joe Satriani so ****ing boring.
