Yeah, Beatles went as big as they went because they were unbelievable lucky. You need a lot of good luck to became popular even if you're extremely talented.
Someone mentioned Green Day and they were pretty big but they have been losing it recently.
Also some artist who are not rock are pretty bug nowadays (I don't like it but it I true).

But what band is the best is subjective so there really can not be any truth about it.
