Also Hold On We're Going Home Lyrics - Drake

I have never heard this song but I read those lyrics. Seems like there's still some pretty cliched pop lyrics out there, eh?

Yes lyrics are usually in a league of their own, I think - not so much pseudo profound as inscrutable. For me, sometimes the words are intriguing just because they´re so inexplicable. This is just my idea of good Yes and bad Yes, all in one song:-

The good:-
Quote:

Even Siberia goes through the motions.
Hold out and hold up;
Hold down the window.
Outbound, river,
Hold out the morning that comes into view.
Bluetail, tailfly.
River running right over the outboard
Not so good:-
Quote:

Outboard, river.
Bluetail, tailfly,
Luther, in time,
Suntower, asking,
Cover, lover,
June cast, moon fast,
^ Ha! Didn´t realise until now that even Jon Anderson was prepared to use moon and June!

"Now many moons and many Junes have passed us by.."

Just noticed that even arguably one of the greatest rock lyricist ever, Keith Reed (from Procol Harum) was brave enough to rhyme moon-June.
Still A Salty Dog is one of the greatest songs ever. There's something unexplainable great about it.

It's funny how don't matter how nonsensical those Yes' lyrics were, Jon sang them like they were biblical truths given by God. He sounded so passionate about them.

Didn´t think of that one,Taxman; well done! You´re right, it´s a great song, though the lyric goes more like this, I think:-
How many moons and many Junes have passed since we made land?

Yes, he had one of the great voices of prog rock and could convey real passion and conviction. In fact, I have a real weakness for singers who seem to be desperately telling me something that I can´t understand; Beefheart does that too.

Back on topic, nothing Beefheartian about these songs:-

Tonight Tonight by New Kids On The Block
Tonight I´m Loving You by Enrique Iglesias and
Tonight I´m Getting Over You by Carly Rae Jepson

Tonight I'll Be Staying With You - Bob Dylan (even Dylan has done this)

Lisnaholic 01-05-2014 07:44 AM

Thanks, Taxman! Another one that didn´t occur to me!

James 01-05-2014 07:49 AM

The best song about tonight.

And a recent offender of the "stars above you" cliche.

Taxman 01-05-2014 08:06 AM

Also I'll Be Your Baby Tonight - Bib Dylan
There'll Be Good Rocking Tonight- Elvis Presley
This Man He Weeps Tonight- The Kinks

Taxman 01-05-2014 09:41 AM

Oasis- Talk Tonight
Beach Boys- With Me Tonight
CCR- Hey Tonight
Paul McCartney- Dance Tonight

There's probably many more too.
