Here's Every State's Favorite Band

Kind of interesting. Don't know how accurate it is, but anyway.

Here's Every State's Favorite Band

Yeah I'm questioning the accuracy too, but it's interesting nevertheless. Some of the choices seem especially bizarre. The Head and the Heart for Washington and Stone Sour for North Dakota? uhhhh...even considering that those bands came from those states, there are hundreds of other more notable bands out of Seattle, and Stone Sour is just...why?

Also ashamed that Blake Shelton is apparently tops in my state. Lame.

Edit: didn't even notice...Bonobo in California? I'm kind of doubting that even a third of the state of California know who Bonobo even is haha

Frownland 02-25-2014 09:10 PM

Bonobo is pretty popular here, at least among people my age.

Missouri best state south dakota worst. am i correct here

Charlemagne 02-25-2014 10:43 PM

I'd personally go with Illinois best and Florida worst, but I can see that one as well.

yeah, the article says it's not representative in terms of how many people listen to the artist or how much they're listened to, it's how much they're listened to compared to other states making their stats seem irregular..

actually, it's a bit of a muddled up way of collecting information
Last FM does a similar breakdown which I'm sure would be vastly more accurate.

Charlemagne, there's no way Rick Ross is even close to the worst artist on the list.

"For this study, I sampled the listening preferences of about a quarter million listeners that have a zip code associated with their account."

So significant

You don't have to, but you should.

Janszoon 02-26-2014 04:06 AM

In my state it's apparently Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Never even heard of them.

It's also limited to the users of the services being sampled which right off the bat means it's not an accurate cross section of everyone in the state. The Last FM breakdown would have this problem as well.
