Most Beautiful Melody?
So, what is the most beautiful melody you've ever heard? A melody that, even without lyrics, still bowls you over. I can think of a lot: Londonderry Air, The Long and Winding Road, Moonlight Serenade, The Boxer... But in the end, I have to give it to Allister MacGillivray's Away From the Roll of the Sea.
I hope this thread doesn't already exist. I couldn't find it, but that's not saying much with my searching skills. |
Scarborough Fair. There is something magical on it. I love this instrumental version:
Scarborough Fair (Instrumental) - YouTube As far as pop music goes then, well, maybe this one. I hate to be generic but really: Beach Boys - God Only Knows (Lyrics) - YouTube And a honourable mention goes to this, though I am not that much into classical but still, this melody is very pretty. Bach, Air ("on the G string", string orchestra) - YouTube |
Baba O'Riley by the Who just because of that mellow and intense ending The End Title theme from Chinatown by Jerry Goldsmith I got more just can't think of them right now. |

My vote goes to "Yesterday" by the Beatles.

Joe has lots of em, but this always sends a chill down my spine:

There are a lot of melodies that can fit into this category. For me it's:
Bach - Prelude in C Major, from WTC Book I, BWV 846. Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker Suite, VII. "Dance of the Reeds". FLUTES!!!!! Beethoven - Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 Mvt II. "Pathétique". Performed here by Daniel Barenboim. |
Toto - Africa
Don't fear the reaper - B.O.C No one asked to dance - Deerhoof Reptillians - Starf*cker Dat intro is beautiful. |
|
Impossible to pick just one, but I've always loved Gary Moore's "The loner"...
