What's more important?

Iv'e heard people say "yeah, thats a good song but i don't like the lyrics" and I've heard people say "I just think this song has a good message". What's more important to you? The instrumental aspect or what the meaning of the song is?

Until I was about 17 I thought the lyrics were "Hold me closer, Tony Danza".

I don't find much importance in lyrics. I've always focused on the music.

The instrumental aspect cause the message can vary from a ridiculous to an intellectual one without affecting a good instrumental composition but that doesn't work backwards.

I think they go hand in hand, a nice combination of both is what makes a great song. I listen to instrumental music and Ilistem to Spoken Word.

Generally this. Depends on the music though.

I think they're like peanut butter and jelly. They are good on their own, but can create something truly great when combined.

The music is far more important to me. Not close.

I don't care about the message, just the musical composition.

How would you feel if there was a song that by all accounts sounded amazing but it had really offensive lyrics, like preaching racism or paedophilia?

You're rationalizing. I don't know any songs that preach a message like those.

Now if you want to talk about the lyrics in some songs, yeah I have some issues with lyrics in songs, like one or two SOAD songs from Mezmerize and Hypnotize, also some early Eminem songs from the Marshall Mather LP, but other than that, no I don't tend to notice the lyrics or the message much at all.
