How to break through in the ocean of music with no massive advertising campaign?

Is there any proven way to get to a big audience and to make them listen to some of my compositions?

I know, maybe wrong site for this type of questions :)

Is it necessary to create quality and original pieces, or is it sufficient to create ordinary things while having communication channels to the audience who will enjoy listening to my music?

As a composer, I have always dealt with the music only, not with searching for any fans, as I thought fans would come naturally, which did not happen. What would you do?
