I'm irreverent towards religion in general, so consequently, I'm irreverent towards Christian music.

Thank god books are flammable, or there'd be no way to stop that.

^ Is that an album of Christian music, or have we slipped off-topic?

Anyone remember this big gospel music hit? Is there anything else as good in the gospel genre, I wonder.

Frownland 06-16-2015 06:47 PM

Here's some fantastic proto rock n roll/gospel.

Lisnaholic 06-16-2015 06:58 PM

Thanks, Frownland, but that's a bit too hardcore for me - I want the soft, teen-pop version of gospel I think!

Frownland 06-16-2015 06:59 PM

Actually a Disney version of that song might be pretty badass.

Lisnaholic 06-16-2015 07:23 PM

 They' d probably make it unrecognisable!
Your track reminded me of a work-song thread that Big3 opened up once, but I can't find it with the infuriating MB search function. :(

RoxyRollah 06-16-2015 07:31 PM

The Jesus Culture aren't that bad, they aren't that great either but they ain't that bad.

Yes. Gospel is over powering at times but still decent.

Frownland 06-16-2015 08:08 PM

I really like it when an artist takes a spiritual or a hymn or something and works it into something entirely different.

I also wanted to post a couple of Marc Ribot tracks ("Holy Holy Holy" and "Go Down Moses), but the bastards at youtube seem to have removed them. Those two are phenomenal religious tracks.

I don't care for songs about God because I'm not all that interested in God.

Machine 06-17-2015 12:14 PM

Idk if he counts but Sufjan always had a lot of Christian themes in his music, but I still love a lot of it.

Who cares what a song is about?
I'm as atheist as they come, but if the music is good I'm gonna enjoy it.
Although TBH not much comes to mind, besides classical music.

Kinda the same, but if it's annoyingly preachy, then it becomes abrasive.

This song is religious as hell, but it's all about hope, which is a universal emotion, and it's pretty ****ing beautiful.

Whereas this is just whiny, preachy bitching about Christians somehow being persecuted, even while being the majority. No matter how good the music is, I still have to deduct points for Ozzy sounding like a twat.

If it's too stupid and pushy that might be a problem, but I'm pretty good at ignoring lyrics anyway, especially in english.

grindy 06-17-2015 01:03 PM

This is great.

RoxyRollah 06-17-2015 05:38 PM

Cohen nailed it when he wrote this then Antony took it and made even more fit for the almighty.

Edit: what's funny is he was a Jew inspired by Buddha to write about God. ;)

edit edit: sung by a transgendered man... "Heathens" make the best songs about God.

DwnWthVwls 06-17-2015 06:40 PM

Nice rack... and a fantastic song. Exo was just telling me about Antony in plug, I got an album bookmarked for listening.

RoxyRollah 06-17-2015 06:43 PM

Start with I am a bird now. The one with candy darling on the album cover.

Pet_Sounds 06-17-2015 09:00 PM

"Silent Night" is one of the most peaceful, comforting songs ever written.
