I think this is definitely the case for popular music but not sure if I would say the entire music world. I think the mainstream labels market the same pop acts because they want to limit the competition (for whatever reason) and I also think their is a conspiracy to only market certain acts more than others. One thing is for certain is that the public has no control over who becomes more or less popular like in the past.

I think we are currently forced to accept the current overexposed pop acts as the best of the best despite their mediocrity. There a ton of acts that the industry can currently market but they do not want to market them. They want all the female pop stars to be overly sexual and they want the male pop stars to be MJ carbon copy's. They all market the same type of brand which makes them all boring.

The public always has the final say in who's popular, though - we buy the records. Nobody's forcing us to accept mainstream pop, it's just that most people don't want to dig for their music and are happy to listen to either autotuned crap or the same regurgitated classic rock standards on their commute.

Sweet new avvy, by the way, Soul! :thumb:
