Most overrated bands

Excuse me if theres a thread already about this. Searched but couldnt find any, just random posts on random threads where people use this word.

For me...and i guess i'll be crucified, happens everywhere, one of the most overrated bands i can think about is Nirvana.

I can say they were good. They were, still are, a symbol. However, in my opinion, people exaggerate.

Thinking about grunge as a wide and open genre (we call grunge to so many different sounds of different bands), i honestly can write a top 5 which doesn't include nirvana. Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Blind Melon, Mudhoney, Mad Season, Jerry Cantrell own project (more hardrock, i know), well, i guess you get the point. Not even in "grunge" Nirvana is the top one.

Ofc, just a matter of personal taste.

Who is this person that rates bands, anyway?....and how do I get my ratings up?

I think the Rolling Stones are overrated, as are the Beatles. Love Beatles, but so many of their fans are just myopic. Stones, I like Their Satanic Majestes Request and a few singles, but think they were pretty generic.

Neo, they're my favourite band. I just hate when people wax hyperbolic about them like, "To say that the Beatles were the greatest band of all time is an understatement." You're cool, man, this isn't directed at you, or anyone on the boards.

If you don't like a band to begin with and everyone else seems to, then I guess they're overrated. The Beatles and the Stones get a lot of credit for their historical significance because they accumulated a lot of firsts. An example for me is Sgt. Pepper - considered a masterpiece at the time, it's probably my least favorite Beatles record. To me, it's the first salvo of them starting to come apart. Still, it has a lot of merit musically, as do most of the Beatles and Stones releases. Same with Led Zeppelin. These are all amazing bands that deserve to be legendary, in my oomble opinion.

To me, overrated means devoid of talent and yet still getting gobs of undeserved attention. For me, Greenday is the first band that comes to mind. Empty calorie shyte like that, of which there is a lot these days.

If I wanted to be a little controversial, I might say that I'm starting to think Prince is a little overrated, based on the new records. He seems to just put out the exact same record every few years. Not a lot of apparent growth there. He is still good for the occasional single and his music still sounds great in Strip Clubs, but I just don't find that any of his albums really hold up that well, even the early ones, and I listen to a lot of funk/soul/rap. Just me though.

Please don't bother reporting posts if you're just going to respond to them in an equally childish way yourself.

Thanks.
