Unintentionally creepy songs
You know those songs that give you the creeps, despite their innocent intentions?
Yes, I know this is a Bob Dylan song, but I prefer the Byrds version (although Dylan's is creepier). It's a bit obvious. The lyric, "big man, walking in the park" always gives me the willies, probably because a big man made a pass at me in a park a few years ago. Share yours! |
I hate the end of Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle". The space noises give me the fucking creeps every time.

Why is "All I Really Want to Do" creepy?

As if the lyrics weren't disturbing enough already, Jonathan cries at the end. i know the song is supposed to be a cautionary tale but it's still very creepy. Enya's 'sail away' is also kinda creepy too. Feels like a call to madness. |
'Every Breath You Take' is a classic example.

Intentionally creepy.

The Flaming Lips: "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part 2"
Modest Mouse: "Dramamine" I don't know why these are so creepy to me. |
I always found this song very unintentionally creepy:
Now, if she does it like this Will you do it like that? Now, if she touches like this Will you touch her right back? Now, if she moves like this Will you move it like that? Come on. And, later on: Your lips tremble But your eye's are in a straight stare (In a straight stare) We're on the bed But your clothes are laying right there And I was thinking of places that I could hide What EXACTLY is going on here? Are they losing their virginity or something? And why does he want to hide?! It's clear that they are both terrified. I saw you dancing there I couldn't get you off my mind But I could tell, that you could tell That I was taking my time But I was thinking of ways To get you staying the night Your body's shaking Turn me on, so I can turn off the lights The lyrics sound extremely nervous as is, but they are so scared they have to turn the lights off now, too? Kids! |

Not so much the lyrics, but the combination of facetious fawning and smug togetherness in this song still makes my skin crawl :-

All I Really Want to do is made far creepier by Saville's intro.

Lyrically, this could be one of the most famous examples. Personally I love the song, really catchy.
Musically, a few "Baroque pop" songs have a certain "Halloween-eque" vibe to them. This video captures it real well. |

That's a pretty good one, but in that case, the song is intentionally somber. This would be another good example: Of course one reason we associate harpsichord with creepy music is because of this. |

The eye of Sauron made this song. |
Back when I was doing Stuck in the Garage, this track always came off as being creepy for some reason:

This probably falls under the intentionally creepy category, but with the female singer it's one of his prettier songs that gives me chills. I think it's even more creepy than a lot of Jandek's moaning. |

I thought this song was really pretty until I heard the lyrics. Quote:

You had me weirded out for a moment. Like when she talks about "Planes, Boats, and Cars." It sounds like she is in a commercial. |

Eets a joke mang. Albeit a terrible joke, but still I was just being a doofus. |
