The problem is social activisim isnt entertainment. And if you ask these ppl what their job is they will more then likely say,"Im an entertainer" Or "Im an artist". They dont say "Im Angela Davis or one of the weather underground" . Which is what you exspect from activists. You are wanting your idols to actually be heros instead of ****ed up people working out their own demons,or spreading ****ty sunny pop tunes.

You are right they are not discussed in hip hop and rap. However, during the 70s, 80,s and even 90s these issues were discussed in hip hop and rap so there is no reason why these issues can not be discussed in music today. I am not suggesting that entertainment should be social activism. I am just making an observation and based on my observation music use to be full of substance and use to expose social issues. I am not suggesting that pop stars do this but just more so reflecting on past artists that did incorporate these themes in their music. I don't really want the artists out now to be "heros" or something they don't want to be but I don't think there is anything wrong with questioning and making comparisons. Its very obvious that past generational artists discussed more social issues in their songs than today's artists.
With that being said, I have a great deal of respect for artists who are willing to put their reputation or career on the line for a social cause. (Once again not all pop stars are like this and I understand that) However, I have tremendous respect for the artists that do this because imo it shows character and dignity. This is partially the reason why I feel a personal connection with MJ and Stevie Wonder because they actually stood up for causes and weren't just "pop stars" and they use their star power and influence to do that Once again, I know not all stars are going to do this but just saying..
Its interesting that the pop stars of today's generation are not as interested in the same causes or issues. I think it is very telling because imo it shows the priorities today's pop stars places on certain things above other issues.
