Where would you go?
Basically, what are the best US cities for original music. Mainly for original rock music, and for people who want to give the "big time" a shot. If you wanted to try your hand in making it as an original rock musician/band, where would you move to?
I'd rather not have to answer why I'm asking this, so please just answer the question. Thanks! |
You really like the word "original" don't you?

I wouldn't be a rock musician because I prefer to make something that I find more interesting. I think I'd do well in Japan, Portland, or New York with my style of music. If I went more free jazz than usual I'd probably do well in San Francisco.

u shouldn't be a rock star u should be a DJ/noise/jazz artist or something

I've heard great things about the Boston scene. Rockers, pop stars, techno-fiends, experimentalists... although I suppose every large city has plenty of those.

I'm not sure it matters what city you are in anymore as far as making it. Seems like every city I have been in you can find a pretty vibrant music scene. Everything is through social media and things now so you don't have to go to L.A. and try to catch the ear of some music exec. I say find some place you want to live, start playing and building up a following.

There's a few hip hop artists from Minneapolis that I really like, and I've heard that the city is one of America's hidden treasures. Don't know if I can handle humid summers though... but I'm pretty ready to get away from the West Coast.

Chicago is a great city for live music. There's always something happening, and pretty much everyday, and in multiple venues, especially around the suburbs in small local clubs. You can literally go to a show every single night.

I'll put it this way. What are the top cities in the US right now with the best original music scenes? Yes, I'm thinking of moving and giving it a try. I cannot find any musicians serious enough in my city. It's mostly just people looking to jam/gig with no intention of taking it further. I have original material written and will be recorded next month. Where I live there just isn't much of a live scene. It's more geared towards industry and people settling down etc. I'm looking or a place that is more, I don't know, "progressive". Or somewhere that has good venues, people who like to see live music, and most of all plentiful musicians. I'm just here to get good opinions/information.
