With Cheese, Please!

Thought this might be fun. Post your cheesiest songs, from any genre.
I find this one to be hilariously cheesy, even if it is a half-decent song...

80's Hair, bad clothes, that slinky guitar, Casio rhythms, and that chorus.
Triple bonus points for being the band with that squiggle for a logo (some would say name).

To those laughing, keep in mind that two of the members later created music as Underworld, although they had to go through a Late 80's mess of it's Mark 1 in order to get to where they are.

Mr. Balin, you're under arrest for a failed Rock Concept album (Rock Justice for those wondering) and for this California Lite Pop mush! The video also gives you extra time in the Pop Slammer.

...still, he sells this song like nobody else could!

Moss 06-18-2015 08:18 AM

Marty Balin could be the grand Marshal of the cheese parade.

Inspired by the Random Album Review thread and moving with the soundtracks, here's part of John Farnham's soundtrack for Savage Streets.

Cher, after meeting Les Dudek, decided to dump the Disco that made her rebound her career and actually form a band with him. The result was one album of Hollywood Designer Street Rock with a touch of New Wave that tried to though up the singer's image but only wound up in the cut outs. Thankfully, she turned to acting next.

The Bassist wearing the choker with the Long Hair Mullet and the backing vocals score 100 on the Trailer Trash cheese factor!

But cheesy can be good too.
This, however, is not. I apologise in advance for any lunches lost, but for god's sake people! You don't HAVE to click the video! That's just being a hero!

(I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry....)

Frownland 06-19-2015 09:29 AM

^I know cheesy can be good, I posted miRthkon a while back. I just never considered Yello all that cheesy.

I seriously wanted to hunt down and kill Michael Stipe after this video broke big on MTV.

Did "Shiny Happy People" make it worse?

I can't comment because of the details of my release.

Extreme - More Than Words

Frownland 06-19-2015 03:12 PM

The drummer looks so sad in that video.

'This is our biggest song and I'm not doing ****.'

Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now
...complete with a super cheesy synth solo (starting @ 2:22).

This makes her Tommy James cover look like an artistic statement. One of the cheesiest Beatles covers of all time made even more by the live clip. At least she was enjoying her brief stay on top of the charts!

Moss 06-21-2015 11:39 AM

This video pretty much killed what was left of Billy Squier's career. Still can't fathom how he thought it was a good idea.

This song is so wrapped up with fond memories I have from the summer before I started high school that it's impossible for me to judge it on its own merits in any way.

There's a whole small chapter on it in the book I Want My MTV and it's one of the saddest but most hilarious clash of stories I have read. Everything that could go wrong did. It was originally supposed to be about Billy getting ready for his concert and fans getting ready to go to the show, but...

They went to two Directors (Bob Giraldi and David Mallet) before they got to Kenny Ortega, who worked for Mallet. All I can see is that they were trying to meet an MTV deadline, Ortega was encouraging him to move around on that set that looked far brighter than what Billy reportedly wanted, and Billy wearing that pink shirt possibly not realizing how it was going to really turn out in the end. Anything you could assume but not prove might be filed in the category of "It was the American Music Industry in The Early 80's".

I'm sure that setting back the date was not going to happen, especially after Capitol spent a lot of money already, and not sending a video was possibly going to make matters worse on a professional level as I'm sure it was seriously set in stone.

In the book, Giraldi said that after seeing the video, he should have been the Director. I'm sure with the original plan.

I love that song too. I don't know if something that's meant to be ridiculous can really be called cheesy, but that song and video are both absurd and awesome.

@2:28 Waterfall is clearly going backwards. I watched the whole thing again, just to see if there was any more evidence that the entire video had been shot in reverse, but sadly I couldn't. For no apparent reason, the band seems to have just wanted there to be ten seconds of subtle, backwards footage in their video.

And I'm convinced the entire reason they even made this cover was to make fun of just how stupid the lyrics are.
