And while her voice is certainly an acquired taste, I think she's among the best female singers and has an incredible range and technique. "Malediction & Prayer" might be her most accessible, although it's still at times very weird. But you should check out the song "My World Is Empty Without You" from that album, it's very beautiful in the conventional sense. |
I somehow deleted the whole review. Just gonna do the overall rating.
http://f1.bcbits.com/img/a0735042046_10.jpg It's a really good album. The beginning is a bit rough, but after that, it really takes off. What it lacks in beauty or largess, it makes up for with great harmony and melody. Most of the songs are very basic, but what works works. Great album. OVERALL RATING: 8.5/10 |
Sucks that the rest got deleted! But I'm just happy you listened to it, and I'm especially glad you liked it!

NEXT! Hopefully this one won't get deleted.
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...s_-_On_Air.jpg Album: On Air Artist: Alan Parsons Genre: Progressive Rock Suggested by: Trollheart Familiarity: None. Haven't even heard any Alan Parsons. 1. Blue Blue Sky - Birds. Guitar is good, vocals are good too. Lots of ambient noise, but it's cool. Nothing super crazy. 2. Too Close to the Sun - Woah, suddenly sounds like 80s Floyd. Oh wait, no, that's just 80s prog. Seems very influenced by adult contemporary, which I don't like that much. Yeah, it's definitely got that stupid sound that sprouted from new wave. Dangit! Why do rich white people always have to ruin music! lol. But seriously, it's not terrible for that kind of song. Very mellow. And it sounds a lot like the Floyd's Gilmour era. I hear his other stuff is much funkier. I hope so. This is really behind the trend too. All that stuff was big in the late 80s. Whatever. It's great, but not quite as great for me. So, it's good for me. 3. Blown by the Wind - Lyrics are awesome, by the way. This one is much better. Retains most of the epic feel, while disposing of most of the contemporary feel. Sounds sort of like Dream Theater's softer moments. And, like I said, Pink Floyd's later albums. It's great though. Excellent guitar work, and great use of the string section. 4. Cloudbreak - At the beginning, I was like, "Is this Chariots of Fire?" but it wasn't of course. This one is also great. Love the bass. The song just wouldn't work without its staggered chords. And the guitar is amazing! Ian Bairnson sounds like Dave Gilmour. I love it. Best song so far. 5. I Can't Look Down - This one's heavier than the previous tracks. I like it more because it's a bit heavier, but it's still an excellent song on its own. 6. Brother up in Heaven - Lyrics are excellent. Got that adult contemporary feel back. However, the piano is awesome (I assume that's Alan Parsons), and the production quality is up to par with the rest of the album. No major complaints. 7. Fall Free - This one's got a more freaky sound to it from the offset. I really like it. This one's great too. 8. Apollo - Awesome introduction. I'm hoping the rest of the song retains the same feel as the start. Very dancy. It's cool, but it's monotonous for a little bit. The majority of it is awesome, though. 9. So Far Away - All good here. 10. One Day to Fly - Oh boy, this one's really good. Absolutely beautiful. It's better than all good. Let's go with all amazing. 11. Blue Blue Sky - Great closer. Oh, this is good. If you like prog rock, you'll like this album. If you like Pink Floyd, you'll love this album. If you're into 80s prog (like Marillion), you will truly appreciate this album. I loved it, and I'll be sure to recommend it to others. OVERALL RATING: 9/10 |
Delighted you liked it. When you say you have never heard any Alan Parsons, is that at all? As this is his second solo after leaving the Alan Parsons Project, and I think most people might have heard the odd one of their tunes. If not, then I'd recommend (not for review here but if you're interested in exploring further) Eve, Pyramid, Gaudi and Ammonia Avenue, as well as their most famous and successful album, Eye in the Sky.
Also, no rating? ;) For my next rec: have you heard this classic? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...stonBoston.jpg |
