Differences in music taste in demographics.

I'm curious. Let's start with men and women. Are there tendencies on what men like as opposed to women? Vice versa.
Well, obviously I'm sure there are, but what reasons specifically?

I remember back in high school we did a statistics poll for a project and we sampled a limited pool of genres. Like Rap, country, pop, rock, and classical.

The majority of girls picked pop. The majority of guys picked rock.
Which makes sense.

Or tell me what, is this question impossible to answer? I'd like to know. I just freaking want to know what people are drawn to.

I'm a 15-year-old boy who is (somewhat atypically) drawn to psychedelic pop/rock, folk (especially rockier stuff), classical (huge generalization, but whatever), glam rock, new wave, post-punk, experimental, indie, prog, ambient, etc.

25 year old female. Like ambient ritual, lots of doom, black metal, psychadelic stuff, western/ southern tinged music, and a decent amount of orchestral work (soundtracks and scores) .

Most evident pattern in all my music is a certain dirtiness. I like things less than perfect, kinda slow and foreboding or mysterious in some way.

Are you looking for a discussion about why different groups have different preferences or did you want people to just list what they like, as the other replies have done?

I suspect a whole lot of variables contribute to musical taste. The stuff our parents played when we were kids, where we live, our financial situation, our politics/philosophy, and many others, as well as age and sex.
