Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song

How can you make this thread and not include
|
Albert Hammond - It Never Rains In Southern California
Peter Paul & Mary - Early Morning Rain (1966) R.E.M. - So. Central Rain edit: since my over-enthusiasm for rain songs has been reproached, I thought I would pare it down to three. |
Ummm really, Mr. Heinous Avatar. ^

Thanks, Pet_Sounds - you reminded me of this song, which I haven't heard in years:-
(I voted Beatles, but could've equally gone for Early Morning Rain or Box of Rain too) |
I gave The Beatles my vote in the poll but this is my all-time favorite rain song...
Traffic - Rainmaker (Live - 1972) https://youtu.be/B9iZlw6MllM |
Out of this list, by a mile, CCR.

The Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again.

Of the list provided, I'm partial to CCR. But my favorite rain song of all time would have to be "She Gathers Rain" by Collective Soul... The lyrics perfectly reflect what it's like to be a teenager raised in the "Bible belt"... Ed and Dean's own father was a preacher, which highly influenced the restrained-rebellious dichotomy of much of their music.
|
From the provided list, CCR, both songs.
But if it was a choice I'd side with Chula. Quote:

The Rain Song used to get air play on WDIZ out of Orlando, Florida back in the 80's and early 90's.

I guess I've just lived in the wrong cities all my life. (Boston, Phoenix, San Diego)

I would lay money that there are "radio staples" you grew up hearing that never got airplay on some of the other stations around the country. For instance, I grew up in New Orleans and one of my favorite tunes was "Love is Like Oxygen" by The Sweet. When I moved to central Florida in the early eighties, I NEVER heard that song even once on the radio. One time about 1987 or so I called to specifically request that tune and the DJ was like "Oh, man I haven't heard that song since I left Seattle back in 1981. I'll see if I can get it on for you". Still didn't get played... Another great example are the "twofer sets" that get played on Classic Rock stations. Like in Orlando they always played: Heartbreaker/Livin' Lovin' Maid - Led Zeppelin Waitin' on the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago - ZZ Top Feeling That Way/Anytime - Journey Without fail these songs were played together. BUT in other cities they'd have different twofer pairs like: Bye Bye Love/Moving in Stereo - Cars (on a Tacoma, WASH station) Silver Wheels/Crazy on You - Heart (from??) Sailing Shoes/Hey Julia/Sneakin' Sally - Robert Palmer (on a Boston station) These three pairs were NEVER played on WDIZ. In fact, not song from the Robert Palmer set were even played individually. Just neat to me how that works. |
