Alternative Christmas songs.

Yeeeeeaaaah I am doing it...its that time of year were we are sick to forking death with the same Christmas songs. SOME OF US FOR THE NEXT 20 DAYS WILL HAVE THE SAME 10 CHRISTMAS SONGS PLAYED OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND................you get the idea.

So how about we drown out or even...SUPPLANT!!! those songs with alternative songs that might keep the spirit yet actually bring actual joy to you.

For me it is one of the early mainstream raps...cos well.....racism, while it may be inaccurate to say this is one of the reasons why we have mainstream rap today (a bit inaccurate to say Blondies Rapture also) yet we can legitimately say its an early mainstream rap....same as Blondies Rapture.

I have been listening to Christmas Wrapping all year since I found out this song last Christmas.

And to balance it out...MOOOOREE CHRISTMAS RAPPING! Which is this could be the first mainstream performance from a black rapper if not again an early mainstream rap.

Zorn did a Christmas album once.

Black Francis 12-01-2015 06:29 PM

The only christmas song i truly like is Brian Wilson's rendition of God rest ye merry gentlemen.

Akyho 12-01-2015 06:38 PM

This is going well, we have Rap and Jazz and something cos I cannot find a place to listen to Brain Wilson as Last FM does not want to work.....like ever for me.

The Wildhearts Geordie in Wonderland...dunno how to categorise this as Wildhearts is usually super rocky.

I can however categorise this as Christmas Ska.

ummmmm folks....I think I went too far.... soooooo I have No Doubt...doing a Ska punk Christmas song in India...

OK NOPE I HAVE GONE WAAAAY TO FAR NOW. Japanese Ska Punk singing Jingle bells.

uuuuugggghh I hate myself this was a terrible idea.... Japanese Anime Christmas song..... by the way this is a giant mecha robots in space serise. I need to stop...yet I am going to be singing along with this anyways.

^^^^

Your welcome, I heard it on a car commercial two years ago and now it gets played all the time. Especially Christmas time.

Crucial Youth changed their name to Crucial Yule for a christmas EP at the end of the 80's. A bold move for a youth crew hardcore band... but Crucial Youth has never been the usual super-serious hardcore band anyway.

I like their cover of 'Crucified (For Your Sins)' ( the skinhead anthem) called 'Xmas Time For The Skins' (I guess they just HAD to put an X in the title of the song) so I share it here :

The Side-A of this 7" is 'Santa Claus Is Coming (and You're On His List)' and is almost as silly as this cover.

Spoiler for From Paul:

A bit of seasonal cheer from 1997's Japan only release of Merry Axemas - A Guitar Christmas

"Steve Vai put this CD together by getting all sorts of wonderful guitarists to play Christmas songs on their guitars. I was called for the all-important job of providing the Japanese Bonus Track. The cool part is that I was asked to write an original Christmas song, and to stay away from covering a standard.

Believe it or not, I've written Christmas songs before, but they all have lyrics. Otherwise how would you know that it's a Christmas song?! I was told that this one had to be instrumental. It was good challenge for sure, plus I had a 3-day deadline to write, record, and mix it!

Thank goodness for deadlines, or I'd never get anything done. I just closed my eyes, visualized myself Christmas shopping, and soon the melodies came to me! The song is called "Mt. Fuji Christmas", and turned out to be one of my favorite instrumentals that I've written. If you've seen any of my recent clinic tours, I usually end my set with this song.

P.S. These last few years I've been getting more and more tired of hearing the same old Christmas songs playing over and over everywhere you go. I don't care if it's rearranged, played heavy-metal style or sung by Mariah Carey, I don't need to hear "The Little Drummer Boy" again! Even the good ones(and many of them are)have just been played TOO MUCH.

So my plea to all songwriters out there is this: PLEASE WRITE SOME NEW CHRISTMAS SONGS!!! And they have to be REALLY GOOD, so they will become popular enough to oust The Little Drummer Boy and all the "Rum Pum Pum Pums".

Remember that lyrics are very important. "Rum Pum Pum Pum" may be annoying, but it is CATCHY."
