Unless they're Kesha ones.

Ke$ha hasn't released any new material in three years, otherwise, yes.

On the search function, you can select "show posts" instead of the default "show threads" to do just that.

Looking forward to the list.

But still, if I were to type in 'Death Grips' for example, I'll get every post that uses either the word Death or the word Grips.

That's fair enough I guess.

^Oh our search functions still suck, don't get me wrong. Just filling you in on something that sounded like you could use.

Thanks both Frown and Grindy, those two pieces of info are gonna save me a lotta time. Now let's just hope people have actually been talking about the music that made the list.

The Batlord 12-23-2015 06:27 PM

Don't forget to search "Manowar"!

Trollheart 12-23-2015 07:28 PM

Looking forward to the list, Manky! And kudos for doing it on Christmas Eve: makes me feel all excited like a kid again. :thumb:

The Batlord 12-24-2015 04:26 AM

And I never listened to the whole Carly album anyway. Did dig what I heard, though.

- Personally i think this is one of those albums that really hit me at just the right time and honestly took over my ears for at least two weeks.....had i been some kind of (insert musical genre here) binge i may have dismissed this album as a young talented woman with extremely simple songs that are a bit fun.

there is something really genius in her simplicity on this album that honestly just pulls on my pop sensibility and has kept me basically obsessed with this album pretty much all year

ms green has managed to created a despondent and somewhat deadpan pop album that is fun, bouncy, and honestly fuzzy in both lyrics and guitar
I love the obvious Descendents nod in the title and the title track and even just listening to this album right now while jotting down thoughts about it....I'm falling in love all over again with it

favorite track is Grinding My Teeth

Album: Confuse and Conquer
Artist: Poison Idea
Release Date: April 7th 2015
Genre: Hardcore Punk, Papa's Punk
Place In Artist's Discography: 8th LP
Highest Individual List Ranking: 2nd - Totasama

Overall Points - 15

It's time for the first subjective view, as I've found absolutely nobody talking about this album. This therefore will be the embodiment of not knowing what you're talking about.

The band's older releases seem to be fairly popular on Music Banter with plenty of members heralding their third album 'Feel the Darkness' as among the best punk albums of all time.

In the last 15 years the band's lineup has changed quite dramatically with many coming and going however Poison Idea remain. The band are still creating their Southern infused style of hardcore punk, one which had earned them plaudits in their earlier days.

On their latest LP they're still aggressive with frantic drums; sharp searing guitar solos and shouting quintessentially punk vocals, I have found this out by listening to the first track on their LP, Bog.

It's not bog standard. I feel like I've just given the worst presentation in class show and tell. I will stop now. This is no.19 if you like Bad Religion or the bands earlier work, you'll probably like this too.

1. Gentle: Reminds me of the opening of Dark Side of the Moon, with a slow, heartbeat drum, then it remains slow and measured, with the vocal melody very reminiscent of The Alan Parsons Project's “Gemini”. Very nice, very relaxing with somehow a sense of impending action.
2. No comprende: Another nice slow one, some very laconic guitar, quite stark at times. Nice female vocal.
3. Spanish translation: With a description like slowcore I guess it should come as no surprise that everything is a balladish style, but it's very nice. Back to the male vocal with some soft piano, though it's firing up a bit more now. Sort of a Country feel to this. Ends on some sumptuous piano.
4. Congregation: Like the bassline opening this, trips along nicely.
5. No end: This is more uptempo, with a dreampop edge about it.
6. Into you: Love the vocal harmonies here, and the minimalist percussion.
7. What part of me: This has a nice indie/dreampop feel
8. The innocents: Back to the female vocal, nice kind of crunching, slow bouncing percussion, kinda folky
9. Kid in the corner: Love the chunky, kind of eighties AOR guitar in this.
10. Lies: The melody in this one is really catchy, builds really well and kind of reminds me of a cross between Breathe, Snow Patrol and Tears For Fears.
11. Landslide: This has a kind of rawer REM edge to it. Love the way it goes into a long instrumental part in the fifth minute (runs for almost ten) and doesn't seem to drag or be overextended at all.
12. DJ: Lovely gentle closer too.

End result: A great album and very relaxing. I actually like both the vocal styles, and they can really turn it on when required. Very enjoyable.

So, Love or Hate? I was considering a True Love, but I don't think it quite made that sort of impression on me. Nevertheless, a definite Love.

Let the mudslinging, bitching and butthurt begin. Enjoy your Christmas Eve's, I'll be back later.

**** man....sorry I didn't get in my Low review quick enough :(

I champion th poison idea album as one of the better punk albums of the year

14232949 12-24-2015 05:56 PM

I've just seen that I've mistaken the word subjective for objective. Oh dear.

Next installment tomorrow, when my parents ask me to wash up after Christmas Dinner.

And sorry for rushing people but I wanna get this all up and done by New Year so might bash on without. I have at least something for the next 17 entries so there shouldn't be a repeat of the Poison Idea situation.

Have started listening to the album, and y'know what? It's actually pretty decent if a little generic.

Yeah, I'm championing this. Fantastic 3rd release from what is now my favorite band. It's fuzzy. It's loud. It's new shoegaze. Newgaze? Nah, that sounds lame. Anyway, I love this band way too much. It's unhealthy.

Quote:

Well, I love their self titled a hell of a lot more but it's still a wonderful album full of classic shoegaze riffs and dirty hooks. It's like if Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and MBV all had a baby. Some may find it derivative, but the sound just speaks to me.

Album of the year right now for me shared with Creepoid. It's miles above her other work as a whole. I really like a bunch of her other tracks and some not so much. This album is just perfect. Every single song flows so well with each other and it seems a bit more...intense? Better produced? I'm not sure but it's lovely.

As with most people, I was first introduced to this band through their debut LP More Than Any Other Day. An album that I consider to be one of the best of this decade, and one that set the bar incredibly high for me. Whilst I believe they fell slightly short with this sophomore effort, I was far from disappointed. They retained their quirky songwriting, bombastic attitude and balance between repetition, energy and fun.

Earlier this year I spent a week in New York, and the clear highlight of the whole trip was going to the Mercury Lounge to watch them live. Their performance solidified this bands place in my heart, and added a whole new layer to the album that I already loved.

Stand out tracks: Men for Miles and Beautiful Blue Sky.
- Goofle

Tomorrow, albums that earned more than 17 points enter the field. What will happen??? Stay tuned folks.
