Steve vai inspired me to start playing guitar from his work in the movie "the cross roads" with Ralf machio hahahaha. The guitar duel at the end was inspiring and it painted a great picture for ripping on guitar and living an epic life of music! Steve Vai, in combination with the rest of the movie, have changed my life forever.

Guided by voices. though i like other bands more they're the ones that taught me how to make simple songs shine with great vocals. Also Django because he inspires me to play the guitar better.

It wasn't until my first year of high school that I had the luxury to appreciate anything in life, including music (up until that time my mother lived with an abusive man who reigned in terror). So, when my mom took us kids and moved back to her hometown in another state, I was able to start 9th grade without fear of getting my head kicked in when I got home. And I finally made friends. My friends were all either into music or were musical themselves.

So began my adventure, and I started listening to a bunch of anachronistic stuff (high school was 1989-1993) like Bob Dylan, the Bee Gees, Rush, Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and whatnot. My friends and I just shrugged at a lot of the stuff our peers listened to (not that it was bad, we just needed something different for that time in our lives).

This kind of turned me into a musical idiot--thinking that only older, classic music was any good, and that music today sucks. I think I've grown up a bit since then, and I can enjoy music for what it is: if it speaks to me, I like it, no matter the genre or time period.

That's why, for example, yesterday I listened to Songs in the Key of Life and followed it with Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. Different genres, different time periods. Both amazingly good.

Linkin Park - For rock in general.
This band is occasional alright to listen to, but I find them too simplistic to listen to. Still love Numb.

Nightwish - For Gothic, Symphonic, Power Metal.
Liking Annette more than Tarja. Not just for vocals, but the instrumental composition too.

Odd mix of Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, and Ensiferum - For Melodic Death Metal and Symphonic Black Metal.
CoB and Ensiferum are both fantastic. Dimmu Borgir tracks didn't grow with me, so they more or less met the same fate as Linkin Park, with a general dislike, but a few key tracks I like. Absolute Sole Right in this case.

If your band ever releases an album, please keep it to yourself.

Dunno, if you're referring to me, but I'll make this comment anyways.

Let's say, if Norther secretly made a new album (granted they are defunct), especially with their old vocalist. Then privately messaged me saying, hey it's all yours the only one and we don't feel like distributing it.
I'd guard it jealously and will gladly keep it as my private treasure.

Stephen Stills is a big one for me right now.

If you ever do anything musically, please shove it up your asshole.
