Interested in Community Project? - Introduction to Regional Music

I'm interested in starting a community project that involves constructing a compilation of 20 or so songs representative of a specific country. It's basically meant to give a basic, overall summary of the music, along with some brief description, that is developed in the country's history, from past to present for people whom are interested in learning about music in different cultures.

For example, let's say we work on Japan: It would include roughly 5 folk songs, 5 classical and theater songs, 5 early popular songs and 5 modern pop/rock/hip-hop songs.

Anyone interested?

20 songs doesn't seem like nearly enough.

Maybe, but I don't want more than 1 song representative of each style of music if we're to expect a high volume. Again, say if we're doing Japanese Classical Music, one or two tracks would represent Gagaku, one for each from Noh, Nagauta kabuki performances and so on. Again, we're talking about a basic overview.

This is a really cool idea. I'm not sure how much I could contribute, but I'll help out as I can. When I first read thread title and saw "regional", I thought it was going to refer to different regions of the US. That would be a cool idea, too.

I agree with Pavement. I'm not sure how much I could contribute, but I could give it a shot... I can help with Mexico, if you want... :P

I suppose we can start with Mexico. I'll start a new thread shortly for it and see how it goes.
