Artists that use more than 1 language
Like Manu Chau for example, do you know any recent artist that uses more than one language in his song or that he uses a mesh of several languages, or a language invented by himself?

Senyawa uses several different Indonesian languages in their music. Wiki mentions Sulawesian, Javanese and Bahasa Indonesia.

Kishi Bashi is an American of Japanese extraction (if I remember correctly, his parents are immigrants). He often sings in English with a bit of Japanese thrown in.

Lacuna Coil... Most of their songs are in English, a few of them are sung in their native Italian, and I believe at least one song alternates languages in the verses

Languages and Music
Actually, I use a few different language with my songs. I've sang in English, Japanese, and Chinese. I think it's an interesting concept, and it also would open up your music to a broader demographic. :)

There's one European band (possibly from France?) who sing in their own language. A handful of Scandinavian bands sing in both English and their native language. DJ Otzi (known for his notorious Euro hit Hey Baby) sings in both English and German.

Sabrina Sciubba of Brazilian Girls can sing in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.

Placebo's Brian Molko occasionally sings in French. I like his French 'Protage moi' even more than English version.

That would be Magma, who are from France. Pixies sang some of their lyrics in Spanish on their earlier songs. Maybe they still do. I can't be bothered to check. Also, Peter Gabriel has done German language versions of some of his albums. Some songs by The Fall feature some German, or at least attempts at that language. And IIRC The Stranglers' bassist sang at least one of their songs in French. |

Enya records in English, Irish and even a totally fictional language akin to Elvish.
Celine Dion records in English, but also puts out records in her native French too. Shakira does English and Spanish, like many other Latin artists. Christine & The Queens released her debut album in French, then re-recorded it in English for the American/UK market. Johnny Cash recorded Ring Of Fire in Spanish. It used to be pretty common for artists to record many different versions of the same songs for different countries - Sandie Shaw recorded most of her hits in English, French, German - and ABBA have a Greatest Hits out all in Spanish, called Abba Oro. There's a lot, I guess. |
Of course there are many artists that use more than one language. A lot of Spanish indie bands come to mind, for instance. Sidonie began their career singing in English. Afterwards they started to sing in Spanish.
There are many examples, really... But if the question is about artists that use more than one language IN A SINGLE SONG..... well, that's a different thing. I think we could mention Fuel Fandango, for instance: |
