I can bet this track played everywhere in 1992.

This guy is excellent. Found him because of MB.

If I wanted to reveal the year I was born, I would link to a Radiohead song.

EDIT: To make mordwyr's post make sense, I also said something about guessing my birth year. My above post narrows it down quite a bit.

Zhanteimi 07-04-2016 02:29 PM

1848?

That second verse...

EDIT: Dammit, Technic! You edited your post so mine don't make no sense no mo!

TechnicLePanther 07-04-2016 02:44 PM

Fixed.

When you post a video, don't use "watch?v=" in the Youtube video code

Something from Hail To The Thief?

Why not? It works, doesn't it?

Seriously? I always thought you were an old fart. You can take that as you wish.

I felt uneasy about posting in this thread because it means I can no longer pass myself off as a teenager. Also the music of my birth year wasn't that great. Still, because ribbons has come clean and owned up to her age, I guess I'll do the same.

I was born in the year that saw the transition of the singles format from 78 r.p.m. to 45 r.p.m, when romantic crooners ruled the charts. The most interesting songs I could find were both exceptions to the predominant style, and both made it to the Number One slot: Winifred Atwell in the UK, Bill Haley in the USA :-

.....

ribbons 07-10-2016 03:37 PM

Lisnaholic, I've been receiving solicitations from AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) in the mail lately.

Anyway, before I careen further toward the golden years, just want to say really enjoyed Winifred Atwell's ragtime piano playing (never heard of Winifred before) and of course "Shake, Rattle & Roll" is a classic.

Your birth year really is tough to select from, for the reasons you outlined. They must have announced that Lisnaholic was born and all else became filler. :) But here's pretty good single from that year, which I don't think reached your shore and pram ;) 'til a couple of years later.

Lisnaholic 07-11-2016 02:55 PM

^ HaHa! Thank you for a post that has cheered me up a lot and will help me to face old age with dignity!

^ Well, that's definitely premature on their part! In my case, there was a bureaucratic line I crossed a year ago when I got myself a Senior Citizens' discount card. :(

I'm glad you like the Winifred Atwell; it still sounds surprisingly fresh, though with the Bill Haley, I don't think anyone would dare to write those pots-and-pans, get-my-breakfast lyrics anymore.

^ For you, musicians obviously reacted differently. They must've been whispering to each other, "O-oh, we have ribbons in the audience now; better come up with something good!" And they did pretty well, so in your pram you were soaking up, I'm a Believer, Whiter Shade of Pale - lots of good sunny stuff in case Venus in Furs was giving you nightmares.

ribbons 07-11-2016 03:54 PM

Lisnaholic, I laughed so hard at your last punchline about Venus In Furs and nightmares that an office mate stopped to ask what was so funny. Rest assured I did not wear "shiny, shiny, shiny boot"-ies of leather in my pram. At least not on very hot days. ;)

No matter what bureaucratic lines we cross, you will always be ageless and the world's most elegant teenager to me.

Inna Selez 07-13-2016 08:28 AM

In 1992 The UEFA Champions League Anthem was written by English composer Tony Britten.

Lisnaholic 07-13-2016 02:58 PM

^ Welcome to MB, Inna ! I wonder what else was around in 1992?

^ That conjours up all kinds of seriously incorrect images, so let's move on:-

1995- The Roots "Do You Want More?!!!??!" my favorite is Distortion to Static. The back beat is hot, the verses use rhythmic variations to keep the words flowing. There are many breaks in the beat to let the emcees go off.

Laser 07-19-2016 04:23 PM

Green Day - Redundant from the Nimrod album but I was never a huge Green Day fan. There were too many cool new bands starting up at the time - like Sum 41.

Hi buddy!

I found one more great song from 92.

Shadou Dan 07-20-2016 03:19 PM

1987

The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
Echo and the Bunnymen's self titled
The Smiths - Strangeways Here We Come
R.E.M - Document

I'm sure I'm forgetting some other important ones... And The Smiths broke up the year I was born

We don't think about it much, but the music playing around us as we grow up is ingrained with us for life. Whether it's Elvis Presley's '50s hits, baby-boomer classics like The Beatles' "Hey Jude," or George Michael in the '80s — an artist who more or less defined radio in that decade — for their respective generations, and usually more, they'll always be around.

While standards and novelty songs were common reaching back to radio's early peak, rock and then hip-hop slowly encroached, to the point that they're now basically in everything we hear, even if not directly. Though a throwback crooner like Pharrell's "Happy" can still pass muster.

Billboard has been tracking the top song of each year in its annual charts since 1946. Business Insider compiled each hit below so you can see, and hear, what was the soundtrack of your birth year.

Did you just copy and paste this from the internet somewhere?

He better hope not, cause there are about a million scrotum jokes to be had if he is.
