I think Limp Bizkit did a world tour in a biodome and Polly Shore was their roadie.

Nah, you aren't the only one that knew about that connection. I did too as I was listening to copious amounts of Bizkit back in the day.

Edit: to add my list.

Not sure why Sevendust is listed as Nu Metal on wikipedia but I do like them. After looking over that wikipedia list. A large majority of those bands were played by me during the early 00s and I loved them.

Guano Apes
Linkin' Park
Papa Roach
Hollywood Undead

Yes, Fred also produced a couple of tracks for his short lived band The Weasels

Aspergers, dumbass.

If you can't spell aspergers correctly or read a post correctly due to utter laziness, you're probably in an avant-garde band.

If you have less than 2% of the FB likes of Chacarron Macarron, you're probably in an avant-garde band.

Papa Roach is one thing, but Hollywood Undead? Seriously?

Holy Moly Post-Grungeman, once again you proved Skitt's Law.

Wikipedia said Chimaira was Nu Metal (early) and was a "notable" member of NWOAHM, in fact they coined the phrase. Discog has them as "groove metal/metalcore." I've seen them also described in metal-archives as "Modern Metal" as opposed to "Nu metal/ grove metal/ metalcore." The only nonmetal thing I noticed about them is that the keyboard player uses a Korg KP2 fx processor. Is the utilization of that device enough to warrant them as Nu metal? Is there enough association with Nu Metal to be considered part of the sub-genre? Or is Chimaira too controversial a pick for the the big four of Nu metal?

What does grove metal sound like?

I'll look into it. If it's somewhat known as nu metal on websites besides Wikipedia, it's fine.

As far as Sevendust goes, their albums are all over the nu metal chart on RYM. They count.

Frownland 07-18-2016 09:50 PM

Nobody gives a big enough **** about nu metal to really care if we're getting the genre right this round.

Maybe lay off trying to make jokes here until you've had some practice first. This is a recommendation to keep you from embarrassing yourself.

Janszoon 07-18-2016 10:00 PM

Assuming "big four" isn't really about quality, but more about embodying the genre in the public consciousness:

Korn
Limp Bizkit
Deftones
Linkin Park

Neapolitan 07-18-2016 10:10 PM

@JGuy, idk. I thought alt "groove" bands would probably be (maybe) like 311 or Primus. I don't know what "Groove metal" would be like, maybe Fear Factory?

That sounds like a Catch-22, if he lays off joke telling how can he get any practice? By all rights shouldn't he practice as much as possible by increasing his joke-output whether or not they pass or fail?

I'm not the one who compared myself to an artist who's hit single has over 50 times as many likes on FB as my whole band does.

Uh...good for you? We all need our points of pride I guess.

JGuy Grungeman 07-18-2016 11:00 PM

You don't know what I'm talking about? You compared your band Wolves in Sheepskin to Chacarron Macarron to make an argument about its unpopularity, which has 3900 FB likes and is the theme for an Arizona Diamonback and a Texas Ranger as well as an internet meme, while your band only has 70 likes.

That's what the joke was.

Janszoon 07-18-2016 11:01 PM

I've heard of Wolves in Sheepskin. Never heard of this Chacarron Macarron.

JGuy Grungeman 07-18-2016 11:08 PM

Well, 3900 more people have heard a' that before Wolves in Sheepskin. And you are on the same website as the bandmember who links all of his music on his sig and labels them as porn to grab attention.

Like I said, maybe refrain from trying out the joke thing on here until you've had some more practice.

Janszoon 07-18-2016 11:14 PM

I love when I make a joke and someone argues with it.

JGuy Grungeman 07-18-2016 11:14 PM

Too short, didn't read.

So back on our origihal topic, expect an answer about Chimaira tomorrow. Also, we'll start discussing the next round's genre tomorrow, and I'll pps the result on Thursday. Like other people here, I was thinking a form of folk would do.

Yes Hollywood Undead, have you no heart. Were you never on myspace? You were probably in diapers when myspace was around huh?

If being diapers is the only alternative to listening to Hollywood Undead, then I guess I better load up on the baby powder.

yeah yeah fine whatever. I know not everyone likes them but I felt like they were huge during the myspace days. Even if you didn't like them, you at least heard their numerous hits posted on different pages when you click on them and had a seizure from all the flashing crap on people's pages.

Actually I own their debit on CD, but I haven't listened to it since I was like, 12, because that's the only age that liking their music is acceptable.

So? Most nu-metal bands aren't mindless party music that tries to hard to be deep and emotional. Except for ****ing Hollywood Undead!

I thought this was a staple of nu-metal?

I'd also like to know more about there music. Is that a furniture music composition or something?

JGuy Grungeman 07-19-2016 09:06 AM

We'll start deciding the next genre to tackle now.

If we're doing folk, what kind? I've seen people rec freak folk, folk punk, regular folk... personally, I'd like indie folk.

Frownland 07-19-2016 09:07 AM

One vote for freak folk.

JGuy Grungeman 07-19-2016 09:12 AM

I'd love freak folk as well, but is it really popular enough on the forums? I mean, only freak folk most people can think of right of the bat is Exuma and Comus. I think that was discussed back on RYM, the possibility if a freak folk round.

The only one I'm opposed to right now is folk punk, since we had punk last week.

We just did a round on goddamned nu metal and you're concerned about free folk because it might not be popular?

JGuy Grungeman 07-19-2016 09:17 AM

We barely got any voters this week. Plus, I assumed there would be more voters this week based on the amount of users who wanted nu metal for the humor of it.

I think we should stick with a larger branch this time so the thread gets a bit more activity.

Frownland 07-19-2016 09:18 AM

Live bands?

JGuy Grungeman 07-19-2016 09:19 AM

Don't tempt me. I'll do it, sucka.
