Holy **** is this epic thrash.

Have you heard TX?

God that is one killer track, these guys don't get enough cred. I got back into them in 2009 when this album came out.

I'll give Evile another whirl. If they are the band I'm thinking off, I think they may have had a song I liked when they were signed to Earache records. Anyone know of some standout killer Warbringer songs?

The Batlord 09-25-2016 12:33 AM

I think Warbringer only ever did decent German thrash worship, but nothing to set the world afire.

Terrapin_Station 09-25-2016 05:44 AM

I like Vektor, and most of the other bands that we've mentioned (a couple I'm not really familiar with), but I just don't like any of them quite as much as I like Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth or Slayer.

I certainly love progressive stuff, and a couple folks will recall that progressive rock influences are a defining characteristic of metal overall in my view, but what matters the most to me is that compositions have a combination of catchiness and emotional resonance via tensions and releases, pushes and pulls via melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, timbral etc. content.

One often-frustrating thing with metal for me is that the vocals often remove a lot of potential melodic content. Other features can make up for this, and it's not as if I don't like quite a few unusual vocalists who aren't exactly opera singers in terms of melodic content, but Vektor is an ideal example where I'd like them more with different vocals.

Dylstew 09-25-2016 09:07 AM

To be honest, I think the big four is fine as is. Maybe voivod could replace one I dunno.

If that's the case I probably won't review their stuff again. I've never bothered to listen to Sodom, but I just can't get into any of Kreator's landmark albums (Pleasure to Kill) ect. Does nothing for me.

Sodom is fantastic.

That is pretty good, Can't say I'm a big fan of the vocals on first listen, but they definitely have a crossover thrash sound & image going for them.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't say they had a crossover image. The sound def has a heavy hardcore influence, but I'd call them more early extreme metal.

Oh the image, I was just referring to the military gear on the covers, that's often a punk thing.

Yeah like I said, they have a pretty close link to hardcore and crust punk. But war was always a big theme in thrash, and especially for Sodom. I'd say that if it weren't for Venom and Hellhammer they could have easily just been a crust band.

this is why i primarily listen to doom metal....the vocals tend to be secondary to the music....if there are vocals at all

In other news, man, too bad this thread seems to have died without JGuy.

The Batlord 10-02-2016 11:00 AM

Yeah bowl cuts don't exactly scream "metal".

djchameleon 10-02-2016 01:01 PM

Yeah we didn't pick a new genre to vote on Friday. Thought Frownland was taking it over.

Key 10-02-2016 01:05 PM

You can't trust Frownland to do anything, you know this.

No one needs you to get this thread anywhere.

It isn't about you.

Blank. 10-02-2016 02:44 PM

Did anyone tally the votes for thrash?

djchameleon 10-02-2016 02:45 PM

You want to do it?

Go ahead tally those votes for us.

I would, but I have a bunch of stuff to do for the metal battle. I can't add this on top of it. I'd like to get around to playing my guitar at some point today.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-02-2016 02:51 PM

I got it, give me a second.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-02-2016 03:04 PM

I'm semi surprised by this. I thought Anthrax would have gotten beat by Exodus or Suicidal Tenedncies. Alright. Can a mod put this in the winners archive?

The Batlord 10-02-2016 03:07 PM

Anthrax still managed to sneak by lol.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-02-2016 03:08 PM

Oh ****, the battle is done? I didn't even realize. That sucks, I like Anthrax but the fact that we ended up with the actual big four kind of blows.

Blank. 10-02-2016 03:10 PM

I'm pretty sure the battle is over. So, what are we doing next?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-02-2016 03:13 PM

I'm calling a mutiny on Frown and I say as new leader of the Big Four thread I will give you what you all want. The Big Four of female pop singers.

The Batlord 10-02-2016 03:21 PM

Not a genre.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-02-2016 03:26 PM

Pop isn't a genre? I'm just saying we segregate it into the superior sex of pop music.

The Batlord 10-02-2016 03:30 PM

Chick singers is not a genre.

She's had one album and an EP that anybody cares about, and that happened like yesterday. Get off her nuts.
