I'm not very precise with my ratings. A 10/10 means that I will likely eternally enjoy the **** out of that album. Even an album with some flaws that are easy to look past can be a 10/10. I also think there are a bunch of perfect records though, but we might define perfection differently.

I get you. A perfect 10 for me would have to have every track be 10/10 for me. That has yet to happen. With Is This It, I found Soma and Trying Your Luck to lack some of that energy that propelled the rest of the tracks on that album. I still love those songs, but when I can easily tell you they are slightly worse than the other tracks on the album then they don't get 10s. Maybe my main issue would be I'm too comparative. When I'm finalizing scores on tracks, I tend to compare them too each other and songs of the same genre. I have set standards by using the best songs that I have heard from those genres. Honestly though, the scoring is more for organizational purposes than anything else. If I need to decide between which album is better, I just go to my scores. But if I'm recommending someone an album or two, as long as they are above a 7 I feel comfortable saying this album is good and you should listen to it.

That's objectively wrong and punishable by death.

It was the beginning of the end of good vocals in Mastodon.

the song-writing is phenomenal and it has arguably their best work instrumentally

Frownland 05-10-2017 02:40 PM

Their best instrumental work would be Capillarian Crest, which is on Blood Mountain.
