The Discogs scanning app is useful but lots of newer albums have different pressings with even different color variations with the same barcode. Only way is the matrix numbers. The matrix holds the key. |

RSD hauls?
The only official record store day release I got was a Nels Cline and Shirley Horn split. I picked up Shabazz Palaces Live at Third Man Records and The Bug vs. Earth for $10 each. It's not vinyl, but I also got a KK Null and Jim O'Rourke collab on CD for four bucks. My mate also found an old desk record player in his aunt's closet when he was helping her move. It had a bunch of loose records and singles in there so I helped him dig through it. Lots of Mexican music and 80s pop. I grabbed a couple that might be interesting that I'll report on later, but I found a loose PIL vinyl that I'm pretty sure is the 3rd record from Metal Box which is dope as hell. Also copped an Edgar Winter record, a Bela Lugosi record that I think is a radio show, and some Yoko Plastic Band single. Nice surprise. |
I worked yesterday and even though we didn't have RSD stock because we weren't approved in time for it, we had a 15% off all used records so we were busy as f*ck.
I also refuse to participate in the "line up two hours early like it's black friday" bullsh*t. I'll buy the leftovers the day after because odds are I'm interested in the less sought after stuff anyway. Only thing this year I really wanted was the german Swans record and I just bought it cheaper on discogs an hour ago along with a Magnolia Electric Co. record. I wasn't interested in the Waits Brawlers, Bawlers, Bastards thing because they were sold separately. I don't like that for some reason. The thing I'm really waiting for is my goddamn KAYO DOT CHOIRS OF THE EYE THAT I PAID FOR AND HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IT IS. YOU HEAR THAT TOBY? GET IT TOGETHER MY DUDE. I'm just kidding Tobes...I can't get mad at you. |

Mark Stewart - Mark Stewart I had only heard As the Veneer of Democracy Starts to Fade before I got this. This is a lot better tbh, crazy that this was dropped in 87. https://img.discogs.com/vjStSc9GBNEw...-1505.jpeg.jpg Claude Debussy La Mer/Fêtes/Iberia (1972) Gotta love Debussy https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.../Axiscover.jpg I have a seriously ****ed up copy that needed replacing. https://cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JP...er=allrovi.com Nostalgia>>>> https://www.metal-archives.com/images/1/9/9/199.jpg Suck it batboy. |
Well, my incredible luck with buying collections continues. I spent $260 buying a collection out of a storage unit. It was pretty risky considering I didn't check condition until I got home and only saw a few albums. They were all taped up boxes. Guy assured me that I'd be happy once I got home. He told me that they were all from a radio station that closed down in 1994. When I heard that date I literally felt my hairs stick up. That's "CDs and tapes are the future" era. He said that a lot of people took turns grabbing albums so while it wasn't a huge selection, it was more than worth the purchase. I'm surprised he didn't want more but I took the risk and went for it.
Here are the highlights. These are pretty much ALL original pressings. Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde Chris Isaak - Heart Shaped World David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World David Bowie - Space Oddity David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars Deep Purple - Made In Japan The Hassles - Hour Of The Wolf Iggy Pop - Live at the Channel 7-19-88 Jawbox - Novelty The Jesus and Mary Chain - Barbed Wire Kisses The Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs for Drella Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Good Son Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York - This is beat up a bit. Still really awesome. Nirvana - Nevermind - 100% original. This is a big boy. This is worth hundreds. Pearl Jam - Yield Pearl Jam - Vs Pearl Jam - Vitalogy R.E.M. - Murmur R.E.M. - Chronic Town EP The Replacements - Pleased to Meet Me The Replacements - I Will Dare single She Silverstein - Boy Named Sue The Sisters Of Mercy - First And Last And Always Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation - This was huge. F*cking original. Sonic Youth - Goo - Again, original. Huge. Sonic Youth - Disappearer Sonic Youth - 100% Promo Single Sonic Youth - Candle (Edit) Promo single Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs T. Rex - The Slider Tom Waits - Big Time Various - Burning Ambitions - A History of Punk - Lots of awesome sh*t on this. Buzzcocks, The Fall, The Damned, Sham 69, Killing Joke... White Zombie - La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 - Special glow in the dark vinyl. I'm not into White Zombie so I may sell this. It's pretty cool though. It's value is over $200 though. I'm still going through the boxes though. Could be more. This is insane. I have enough records that I don't particularly want that will pay for the purchase and then some so I basically got all these for free. F*CKING SONIC YOUTH DAYDREAM NATION AND GOO. WHAT!? My life is neat. |
How many records/boxes were there?
The Madcap Laughs is a great find too, you're not going to find that for cheap and in good condition unless you come across it in a garage sale or something. |

Somebody contacted me about a box of records. They do house cleanouts occasionally and found a box. Problem was they were an hour away from me so I asked for photos of the records. Dude sends me a few that include albums by The Animals, Mountain, Johnny Winter. Not really "drive an hour" type records. I can also tell they're beat up. I tell the dude and he says it's mine for $20. So, I decide to go because I need a dude who does cleanouts to look out for records for me. Plus, it'll only cost me $20 and a nice ride up to Orange County, NY.
I get there and the guy is very nice. He had a goat named Milo that was so f*cking excited to see me. I pet him. I saw the box of records and flipped through some stuff and didn't really see anything else but I drove all the way there so I bought it and he agreed to call me if he ever found more records. Before I left I asked where they came from and he said, and I quote, "Two lesbians from Warwick. That's why there's a couple artsy fartsy weirdo records in there". Here's what these artsy fartsy muffs had in there once I was able to look when I got home... Alan Vega - Alan Vega Suicide - Suicide Gang Of Four - Entertainment! Gang Of Four - Another Day/Another Dollar T. Onodera And Los Onoderas* - Rock & Drums / Free - Some psych drums and sh*t. Eyeless In Gaza - Rust Red September Tony Scott - Music For Yoga Meditation And Other Joys - Awesome ass sitar Indian stuff. XTC - Drums And Wires Echo & The Bunnymen - Never Stop "Discotheque" Keith Jarrett - Sacred Hymns Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert Larry Coryell - Planet End Charlie Byrd Trio With Annapolis Brass Quintet - Byrd & Brass Adrian Belew - Lone Rhino Return To Forever Featuring Chick Corea - Where Have I Known You Before Edith Piaf - At Carnegie Hall January 13, 1957 Thanks lesbos! Gay people have such better taste than the rest of us. |
