We do have the word "soppy", but I've only heard that applied to people; someone who is overly sentimental or prone to crying. Usually applied to girls or women, 'cuz you know, that's what they do.

It sounds like "soppy" and "sappy" mean the same thing, it's just that "sappy" isn't really used to apply to people.

^ Yes, I'm sure most of us regard this as a very bad sign. We much prefer the sincere, empassioned underdog who pays his dues and is finally recognized for his talent. Step forward every MB member who is also a musician:

Two bands famous for being marketing creations are The Monkees and The Spice Girls. Any others?

Boyzone were literally created as part of Louis Walsh's drive to "create the male Spice Girls". Can't get more market-fashioned than that. Also, every artist who ever became famous through the X Factor or American Idol.

80s pop is some of the most dated pop ever tbh. Michael Jackson can be straight up cringey 80s.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-28-2017 09:46 PM

the reason why i love 80s pop so much is because of how dated it sounds

Chula Vista 10-28-2017 09:49 PM

I think there's some confusion in terms here.

Corny is pretending but not done in a cool way, so we have corny jokes that pretend to be humour or wit, but the jokes are just dull or crummy.

Meanwhile, Tacky is generally something visible or is more visual in complexion. So we have tacky outfits that we can see (and judge) to be tasteless, gaudy or loud and not really suitable for the occasion.

Cheesy is just low-quality stuff (figuratively speaking) that we could all detect, determine or see that can’t stand up to our own standards (whatever the standards may be). So we have cheesy remarks or even cheesy ways of doing things that we can destroy or rip apart according to your own high tastes.

Dio, one of the greatest HM singers ever, was by no means cheesy. His visual dungeons and dragons presentation was certainly tacky at times.

Sames goes for a lot of the 80s stuff. Some great songs and production but the whole 'new wave' visual vibe was tacky as hell, and a lot of the whole aqua net 80's hair metal stuff was pretty corny.

All three adjectives are most definitely in the eye of the beholder.

I love me some 80s Madonna, but in general it doesn't move me.

Tears for Fears - Songs From the Big Chair, The Fixx - Reach the Beach, Mister Mister - Welcome to the Real World, Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years, Skid Row - Debut Album, Living Color - Vivid, and Faith no More - The Real Thing are just a handful that still hold up for me from the 80s.

The list of stuff that doesn't is much longer to be sure.

You know what I mean. And don't come at me like I don't love me some Skid Row. The follow up to Dr. Feelgood we never got.

Saw them open for Aerosmith after their debut and they ****ing kicked major wads of ass. Aerosmith should have retired later that evening.

Saw Aerosmith follow up Motley Crue a decade ago. Motley Crue were the ****. Still feel like a **** for missing "Live Wire" will queueing up for beer. But why does Stephen Tyler think anyone gives a **** about his harmonica? Or any member of the band doing blues for that matter?

Totally agree. "Dated" isn't even a negative word in my view of music. One of the charms of older music is that you can hear when it's from.

Dylstew 10-30-2017 02:42 AM

80s poo is the ****ing worst. 80s metal and punk is great though.

Makes sense, the forum is getting older and it's slowing down a bit.

I would but the stool softener hasn't kicked in yet and the repercussions could be disastrous.

Red Foreman's stool softener kicks in really fast.

Sitting here trying to get this joke but pretty sure it's a fool's errand so, huh? And yes I know full well who Red Foreman is. I'm also kinda surprised you'd make a That 70s Show reference. Doesn't seem your wheelhouse.

I mean, yes, but consider Red's catchphrase.

The Batlord 10-30-2017 12:27 PM

Dumbass. I mean it has "ass" in it, but I'm still dumb.

Frownland 10-30-2017 12:28 PM

TFW you don't know if you're being trolled or dealing with a softhead.

The Batlord 10-30-2017 12:43 PM

Alright I get it now but that still sounds like a stretch for a joke.

Frownland 10-30-2017 12:45 PM

No it's a very good joke.

Frownland 10-30-2017 12:53 PM

Sometimes you gotta remind people that they're not hip enough to enjoy your humour.

Foot in ass? Stool softener? Kicks in fast?

Yeah no there's a difference between intelligent humor and just being obtuse. You've got some great shiznit but I think you're losing sight of the fact that every thought you have isn't immediately accessible to everyone else, even the enlightened. Call everyone else stupid, I do, but just realize that you have to account for people not picking up what you're putting down.

Frownland 10-30-2017 07:11 PM

Well it made me laugh my ass off so y'all are missing out.

Is that really how you feel about Red Foreman. I'm kind of in awe. I love That 70s Show. But you're in another league.

I meant my humour. 70s show is just aight and probably mostly on a nostalgic level. I just went hard dad joke with a corny dorky joke about dads because you were bitching about dad jokes.

I mean **** you, cause no matter how much I love That 70s Show from nostalgia that is some serious **** you just did. I mean Jackie x Hyde, but you just went the distance.
