What if he said Asian or a Jewish? Would you say the same "Have you ever met a ... ?" In my opinion if you say one thing about one group, if you change the group and it sounds racist then it's racist. It walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck. I know the rebuttal by heart, "you can't be racist towards white people" so that why it is just hatred.

Another micro-burst of hatred are the lines where he wants raps about how to kill or maim the Koch brothers.

Quote:

"I'd like to run up on the Koch Brothers
And beat 'em with a garden hose made of old rubber
Give 'em rock bottoms and a cold stone stunner
Drop some cold butter on 'em from the skyscraper (which could kill them)
Pistol whip 'em with the handle of a lightsaber
Cut 'em with rice paper, chuckle like a wiseacre"
The Koch brothers are libertarians. From their perspective they are defending "the principles of a free society." So for that he believes he is justified to beat them with a rubber hose?

I've never actually met a white person, I was just wondering if you had been so unlucky.

Coke sucks, they deserve it but it would be better if he said lead pipe because then it'd be a cool pipeline pun.

lol

I’m starting to like this record more without even listening again

I thought dropping butter on them is because they have a lot of bread (aka money). Then I aks myself why do I even bother to figure out if there some hidden reference in those lyrics.
Open Mike is so full of all these opinions, so why cuss off white people, and fantasizes about attacking the Koch brothers because they have opinions too?Like I said from Kock bros perspective they are defending liberty. So how is that a crime that can only be rectify by a vigilante rubber hose beat down? It's OME calls to violence I don't jive with. It's like Open Mike is saying "I aint no gansta but I certainty do make an exception for the Koch brothers."

So if OME told you he was defending liberty with his lyrics you'd be cool with him?

Well I just gave him a call and he said that. Glad you're a fan now. Anyways, don't call him racist or he'll snap.

This one was definitely new territory for me, as I've probably heard a grand total of two, perhaps three hip-hop songs in my life, and I couldn't name them if I was asked. Ninety percent of my listening is instrumental, so the vocal focus of rap music is really removed from what I look for on a record. Still, I wanted to give it a fair shot.

The fractured classical instrumentation on Thirsty Ego Raps was welcome, and I imagine it's reminiscent of 90s turntablism and sampledelic/technostalgic tunes of the heyday of sampling. I'm curious how commonplace (or how rare) plunderphonia has become in the tightfisted copyright climate of the present day.

MicShazam's summary was concise and spot-on. I appreciated the lack of posturing and token subject matter I recall pouring from streetside ghetto blasters twenty-five years ago. Still, I don't entirely understand the comedic element here, and the frequent postmodern cultural references were entirely lost on me. But that's not a fault of the record, it just doesn't speak to me, personally.

Too far outside my wheelhouse to give it a score.

First lines of the album:

Quote:

Dark comedy cold as the ocean
Add a lol cause nobody seems to know when I'm joking
I think that Golden Age Raps is the best example of Mike's style of ironic and wry humour for those who aren't very familiar with him. Most of the lines and the outro sample crack me the **** up.

Best bits bolded.

Quote:

[Intro]
Whatever it's supposed to be
Do what it's supposed to do
Make you uncomfortable
Make you uncomfortable

[Verse 1]
**** Redding, California, cause ****'s pretty racial there
I'm envious of anyone with full-grown facial hair
Yeah, I'm always in between haircuts
But FDR said it ain't **** to be scared of
Huh? He must have never smoked herb
Been beaten by his dad or heard bad spoken word

I got a pretty mean overbite
I'm still trying to navigate the settings on my Focusrite preamp
Condenser mic attached with a c-clamp
Weed on the patio, chiefing under the heat lamp
Yeah, or sneak in with a g-pen
And take that **** to church and stay high all weekend
Yeah, I'll ****ing interrupt your telecast hella fast
From blonde wig and blue eyed Ellen mask

[Break]
Watch me dance. Are you watching?
I'm cold

[Verse 2]
We should invest in inner-ear monitors
And start our own niche and gain little weird followers
Yeah, that make the flyest orthotics
And make decent movies out of Alan Moore comics
You can use Facebook to learn gang signs
And creepers can stalk all their exes at the same time
And if your rap career ain't hitting
You can rap over videos of kittens, it's the golden age!
Tell the internet how you got ****ed over
And buy a minivan with seventeen cupholders
Legal opiates, having yourself a fever dream
And you can watch a video of the bible's deleted scenes
And nobody ever has to pay for anything
Which is pretty cool cause everybody's unemployed!

I changed my rap name to Lil' Wonder Boy
Change your rap name to Lil' Lord Fauntleroy
And we can rap about all the different candy bars
Try to get sponsors from Mounds and Almond Joy
And Whatchamacallit, and Nestle Crunch, and Kit Kat
And ****, Toblerone
And watch Twin Peaks on your mobile phone
And take a shot so you don't feel your broken bones
And move close to home
Or don't move out to begin with
Smoke herb for your gout and your shin splints
This new colorful weed is pretty intense
There's thin mints that you can get after you finish wind sprints

[Outro]
And I think that's it
But all that **** is great right?
That **** is cool!

[Interview Excerpt Outro]
Also the hip-hop guys always have a giant posse also
Yeah I don't have them in the — [indistinguishable mumbling and laughing]
Why would I?
You don't have anything to ask?
So why don't you play guitar? You got samples
Now are you rhyming instead of singing?
Well, let me break here

OccultHawk 11-28-2017 02:52 PM

Is this your recommendation, Frown?

Those lyrics aren’t exactly mind blowing...
