Okay, I'm actually listening to some jazz albums circa 1959 and I hate to burst your bubble, Occult, but so far, Kind of Blue only rates as the third best jazz album of 1959 so far behind Take Five and Moanin by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.

Please, Hammer, don't hurt him :shycouch:

The Shape of Jazz to Come is clearly the best record of 1959, jazz and otherwise.

You mean Time Out?

All three are unassailable.

Bitches Brew is the pinnacle but I try not to be too comparative with Davis' work since he evolved so much over the years that it doesn't make much sense. I just realized that the majority of people probably haven't heard Bitches Brew. Sad.

I haven't heard a lot of Davis' stuff, but Bitches Brew is hands down his best album. It's range of beauty to ugly is just excellent.

Oops. I did mean Time Out.

Ornette Coleman is good too but I didn't rate that as high as the other three. I also liked Coleman Hawkins meets Ben Webster. I have to listen to Horace Silver and Bill Evans next before I get into the folk and blues portions of the year. Who's up for some Kingston Trio?
