DADGBE

He was famous for using alternate tunings though, the most notable ones being - with one song example:

DADGAD - Kashmir

DGDGBD - That's the Way

EAEAC#E - In my Time of Dying

DGCGCD - The Rain Song

CACGCE - Friends

DADGBD - Going to California

He did actually use Drop D tuning in probably only two songs one of those being the instrumental Moby Dick. Check Drop D Tuning on Wikipedia. The grunge bands copied Led Zeppelin with that.

Don't some people tune the high E string down to D as well?

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.

Yup. Other song examples are Spoon Man, Black Hole Sun, Dear Prudence, and Aenima. It's in my post for Going to California.
