MB Bowie Classics: "Labyrinth" OST

I'm very dubious about including this, being a film soundtrack and all, but then it is in his discography, so, you know, I guess listen to it and vote if you want to... |
This being included makes me happy!

Bowie doesn't have many turds in his musical punchbowl but, unfortunately, this is one of them. Five songs composed by Bowie, six composed by Trevor Jones, and one featuring music by Jones and lyrics by Bowie.
The only song here that stands out (and not by much) is "As the World Falls Down" by Bowie. The main reason it stands out is because it sounds like Bowie doing a Bryan Ferry impersonation both musically and vocally. Bowie's contributions to this album just sound like typical mainstream pop of the time. Dated and forgettable. 1/5 |
Corny soundtrack from a corny movie.

Ah **** yaz! This isn't half as bad as you're all making out. A half-decent movie, and I like the fact that Bowie not only wrote some of the music but also starred in it. That "Goblin Battle" is Alan Parsons Project 101 though! And I could live without two versions of "Underground", though it's a good song. "As the World Falls Down" definitely the standout, but some good stuff here. Hey, at least it isn't Never Let Me Down. Oh. Wait...

Horrible record
5/5 just to **** with the polls ROCK THE VOTE!!! |

I love the hell out of the synths and other instrumentation on much of this album. "Into the Labyrinth" sounds all kinds of awesome. I even like some of the more corny tracks, like "Magic Dance". Basically this album brings all that 80's magic Bowie's 3 pop forays failed pretty hard to deliver on.
My favorite song on this album has always been "Within You" and it's just pure magic from start to finish. "Sarah" is another track that has wonderful atmosphere. And in pretty much all cases, I really dig the instrumentals on this album. Basically, a lot of the anachronistic sounds of this album are exactly what I love about it. This album is so drenched is several heavily 80's flavors that you tend to only get in small doses elsewhere. And isn't it just wonderful how bittersweet "Home At Last" sounds? "Chilly Down" is garbage, but whatever. What can you do. The movie also happens to be a favorite of mine. This album gets an unapologetic 4/5. _Previous ratings:__________________ (Rated on a scale relative to only Bowie's own discography, where 1 means the worst he's done and 5 means the best he's done.) The Labyrinth: The only movie where I can quote the first part of its most famous line, and nobody will finish it.

I'm terrible at movie quotes - even for movies that I've seen a dozen times.
