Here's some more Carla Kihlstedt, although the music is somewhat different.
I could really see you digging this whole album.

So I finally got around to checking out those 4 Elton John albums and... this doesn't sound much like Judie Tzuke's early material at all! At least that's my take on it. You really need to take a closer listen if you think Tzuke was ever just aping Elton John, even having been mentored by him.

I'll go back to the original point you made several pages back or whenever it was: I don't see any inconsistent behavior in me being a big fan of Tzuke that doesn't particularly care for Toto or Elton John. I really don't. Apples & oranges...

EDIT: Although it should be made clear that I think Tzuke's first album is a somewhat different thing than her later albums. It's when she really found her stride that I think she's great. Still much I like about the first album, but it's far from her best imo

I just listened to the first 3 tracks of that album and it's not my cup of tea. Not really into 50's pop/rock. This stuff just doesn't click with me at all.
I don't know if the world needs more of this stuff, but apparently it does according to some people.

It's not poorly made, but for whatever reason, this is really one of my least favorite types of music that I can think of.

A selling point for me, at least with the Snivilisation album, is the atmosphere that backs the great beats and melodies. I thought you might like that song in particular because of the vocals (She's Goldfrapp btw, if you're interested in checking out her stuff).

Maybe try this one? Has a bit more of a modern production:

I know Goldfrapp. Not hugely into their stuff, but I've been considering giving them a second try when I feel like it.

Anyway, about the above track. Well... I tried. I find it difficult to put into words exactly how the sensibilities of this music misses what I'm into by a wide margin, but I'm just not really feeling it. One part reminded me of the soundtrack for the PS2 snow boarding game Dark Summit, so now I feel like booting that up. But sadly, my PS2 is in need of repairs.

I don't know... Orbital just don't really have much going on that I really click with. Some semi-neat things going on here and there, but I don't feel like exploring their music any further.

Sorry. They do seem to be a band that you like a lot. Are they top 10 or 20 material for you, even?

Prove yourself a man and face your past!

Listened to this one again and, no joke, it's total ****. I must have been out of my mind back when I actually liked this song every time it played on MTV. I even bought the whole miserable album! Absolute trash. I can't think of a worse nu metal thing right now. At least the way the riff and vocal track interlocks during the verse is a somewhat original idea, but it's also a terrible idea. **** past me for not killing this thing with fire on first sighting.

A large percentage of this is just dumb.
The only parts I don't hate are the low key, dirge like sections with howling horns and organs. The 80's pop part around the 11 minute mark with the singer that sounds like a Muppet is the worst thing I've heard since... the Clawfinger track above, I guess.

Sorry. I know I also hated on the Ayreon post. It's not about you, it's just that I hate this stuff :(

Actually, it's unclear to me exactly what elements are tracked and which are played live. The bass could be live, but I'm guessing everything has been sampled before assemblage.

It's got a cool vibe and progression. There's kind of a nu-jazz feeling to the music (apart from the percussion, that is), but I'm not sure what this would be classified as.

Either way, I find this to be a creative, beautiful and highly entertaining track.

Not top 10, I don't know if I'd say top 20 including all music, but they're probably my third favorite electronic artist after deadmau5 and Kraftwerk. Maybe your top 1000 songs will help me find some electronic music you'll like.

Now something completely different:

You were not wrong. I really dig this. The instrumentation is so creative and sounds so great. Every single sound is rich and vibrant and the soft voice of the singer fits perfectly with everything else. I like how it flows back and forth between being acoustic and using electric guitars. There's a very distinct core idea to this song that everything else plays to. So there's a lot of sonic variation here - but it's all put together into a beautifully cohesive whole.

Easily one of the best things that have been posted in this thread so far!

Plankton 01-15-2019 06:45 AM

Based on that ^, maybe this then:

Less sonic variation, but some great artistic imagery by Jeff and Imelda.

Not a terrible song, but I'm not really feeling it. Reminds me of this band my parents used to listen to called "Racey".

maybe this remix fixes things??
i really like it, but then i also like the original track too..

windsock 01-21-2019 12:34 PM

I **** with Coldcut and I have a huge respect for them mainly for founding Ninja Tune but that remix just doesn't beat the original.

i dont think it beats the original but the host of this thread thinks the original is a good song destroyed by the strange production so maybe she prefers this one.
and its still a good-diferent-aproach-remix

totally agree about coldcut and ninja tune.

I actually own a Cruachan album, so I'm not immune to their charms. I gotta say they're not quite a top tier band for me though. There was always a sort of amateur feeling to their music and it's not always that the compositions are quite there, but I enjoy them anyway. The posted song feels a lot like one of the songs from the album I have, but maybe a little more polished.

When Cruachan do mid tempo chugging, I usually have a good time. Pretty good band.

windsock 01-26-2019 04:43 PM

Orbital are pretty good btw, but The Altogether is probably their worst (tentatively). Though if the general ethos of that track turned you off then I'd say yeah you're probably gonna have a hard time enjoying them in general.
