I liked this. Great fresh sound, light, lush and melodious and sometimes dreamy. The songs sound quite alike, so the organ sound that pops up once in a while is a nice variation. All in all it sounds mostly goofy and happy in a naive, youthful way. Also, the riffs/grooves that are made up of multiple guitars or guitar and organ, and a certain detachedness, remind me a bit of a more straightforward, happy version of Sleatter-Kinneys The Hot Rock

At first I couldn’t place it... I was thinking “The Monkees?” And it does have a solid lighthearted pop sensibility that isn’t so different but then it occurred to me: The Modern Lovers! Cellophane Car brought it home for having that riff that reminds me of Roadrunner. Pavement, Big Star and hey naming every likely influence (Stereolab) isn’t really the best review anyway. Like this a lot - catchy songs that appeal on the first listen. Stays in its lane. Sounds like a band that knows what they can do and do it well. Every song is catchy and that’s ****ing rare. All meat and no filler.

To me ears they sound like bands on Flying Nun Records, particularly the bands The Bats & The Chills. The Stroppies are from Melbourne. I'm guessing there's a strong influence from the Dunedin Sound/Flying Nun Records which seems to make sense to me that Aussies would be interested in music from NZ.

When I first heard "Cellophane Car" the chords played on the organ reminded me of The Beatles' It's All Too Much. (Those first three chords.)

They also remind of R.E.M. during the I.R.S. era especially the clear jangley guitar parts, also a little bit like Beat Happening, probably 'cause of the female vocals.

They are a band that reminds me of "lo-fi" band, but clearer production, and they end up exactly like you said: "Great fresh sound, light, lush and melodious and sometimes dreamy. "
