Default Classic Songs I Have Never Heard

Some years ago I started a journal called Classic Albums I Have Never Heard, focussing on, well, classic albums I had never heard. I don't have the time to resurrect that again, but there are still thousands and thousands of songs I probably should have heard, but never have. Being someone who doesn't listen to radio, follow trends or watch music TV, I tend to miss out on the big hits and later classics. I've never, for instance, heard a single song by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars ... in fact, to paraphrase Ned Flanders and use a little hyperbole: you name it, I haven't heard it!

So this is your chance to educate me. I'll accept up to five songs per turn, any genre, any artist. They don't have to be classic songs, though it would be nice if they were ones everyone thinks I should know, but hell, if you think they're classics that's good enough.

To prevent everyone posting a million videos and overwhelming me, you'll need to nominate your songs, which is just a smart way of saying tell me what you intend to post, so that, should I actually know some of them, I can save you the trouble. Once approved by me, you can post away.

Then I'll give them the old Trollheart treatment, see if I agree I've been missing out, see if maybe I need to check out the album(s) they come from.

Oh yeah: let's for now limit it to one song per artist from the same member, otherwise I'll end up getting like twelve Dissection songs from Batty or something. Keep the variety going is what I say.

Also, when suggesting or posting tracks, if it doesn't mention it in the video can you please advise what album your song is from? Some artists have huge discographies and I don't want to waste time trawling through them looking for a song, single or track. Thanks.

So then...

What did I just say? Don't post till you... ah, **** it who cares? Post away I guess, but if I know the song I'll just ignore it (but I'll tell you). I don't know that one, so you're first on the list.

I guess I just wasn't sure what you meant by "nominate" the song first. That's my bad

It's all good, no problem.
I just meant something like "have you heard this/these" but it doesn't matter. Chances are nobody was going to pay a blind bit of attention to my rules, and I'm sure Batty would have complained anyway. Carry on.

Heard none of them, so post 'em up and I'll let you know what I think.
Is Simon Finn anything to Tim?

I edited them into the post. Also I don't think they're related but Simon is involved with Current 93 if you're familiar with them.

When you say "Classic Songs" what immediately comes to mind for me are old R&B and Golden Oldies of the 50s and 60s. However if you want to use the broadest definition and the widest umbrella for "Classic Songs" then I will include anything, any genre, whether the song made the charts or not. I am a fan of a bunch of stuff that doesn't make it into the charts. I have plenty of songs I could mention regardless what anyone thinks it has earned its "Classic" status. It's all relative anyway for this forum at this point.
  1. The Ink Spots - Slap That Bass
  2. Louis Jordan and the Tympany Five - Beans and Cornbread
  3. Chuck Berry - Come On
  4. The Cadillacs - Speedoo
  5. Bo Diddley - Road Runner
  6. Slim Harpo - Shake Your Hips
  7. Wilson Picket - A Land of a Thousand Dances
To keep track of songs I posted for MarieMarie I made her a playlist. I'll do the same for you. It's entirely up to you if you want to use it or not.
