Default SPIN's 35 most influential artists of the last 35 years

Predictably Nirvana is #1. Billie Eilish made the list (at 33) but neither Sonic Youth nor The Pixies (for example) did? She's more influential? And no rock bands from the 2000's or the 2010s, not even one? Every band on the list released their first album in the 80s or 90s. No garage rock or post-punk revival bands? But The Spice Girls made the list. Were they really that influential?

Thoughts? Rants? Tirades?

I have absolutely no idea how influential any of these bands are. I just find them highly suspect of being influential. (The genres mentioned are not to be taken too seriously. I'm not saying they invented any of these styles either.) The genres are there to show what style of music that particular band might have been responsible for advancing further to the next generation of bands - like passing the baton.
  1. Pram - Left Field. They started out as Post-Punk and segued into other areas but always reaming like their coming out of left field. (I see other people claim they were Post Rock before Post Punk.)
  2. Stereolab - Avant-pop
  3. Add N to (X) Electro-Clash
  4. My Favorite - Synth Pop and New Wave. A band from Long Island, New York that keep 80s going while everyone else went Grunge. Toured a lot, and probably influence bands somewhere.
  5. Broadcast - Hauntology
  6. Sean McBride - Minimal Wave (he records under the name Martial Canterel and is 1/2 of Xeno & Oaklander)
  7. Crystal Castles - Witch House
  8. of Montreal - Neo-Psychedelia
  9. Rites Of Spring - Emo
  10. Cinema Strange - Goth
  11. Weezer - Geek Rock
  12. The Strokes - Post-Punk Revivial. Their music contains various styles of the 70s like Power Pop and Post-Punk mix with their idea of music from the future.

To answer your questions:
1. John Peel
Yes, I did care about his opinions. Though he was more influential as a DJ.

I actually can't believe the amount of people who were commenting on this in the link. Really? Who cares what Spin has to say in 2020. It's clickbait. Designed to "stir up controversy".

John Peel was a man of many hats: journalist, DJ, band scout, BBC live music presenter, The Fall's biggest fan.

Lenny Kaye was another who was a writer but also done other stuff. He compiled Nuggets and he was the guitar player for Patting Smith.
