Just got a record player and already own like 7. Pain in the ass. It is so much harder than just playing it off my phone, but I will say, it is so worth it at the same time. Makes it feel so much more personal and the effort of just going out to buy it, taking care of the album and the small extra effort that goes into playing it makes you feel more respectful of the music.

I also bought a record player and started buying records throughout the lockdown last year. Where do other UK members get their records? I have only picked up a handful so far

Lockdown made me do the same (hi fetcher, btw, nice to meet you). I've bought most of my records online on discogs or sometimes bandcamp, but I've also used Juno records and Norman records at some point. They have webshops, and cheap UK shipping I think

Nice to meet you too!

I haven’t looked at any online yet, I will have a look on those sites. Thank you!

Any tips on a slightly jumpy record? I noticed it with one earlier today, it is mildly infuriating.

We used to put a penny on top of the needle.

Yeah, a little pressure is about the only thing for a slightly warped record.

FETCHER. 01-12-2022 08:45 AM

It didn’t work :(, I think it may be because it’s a relatively cheap player? Record is brand new and doesn’t seem warped. Hoping it’s just a **** player

If you can replace the needle, that'd be a cheap fix and something to look into.

I used to have a Numark TT when I was in Germany. That thing was beautiful, but I had to let it go (along with a lot of other things) when I came back to the US. I wanted to travel light and not have to ship stuff.

I remember getting some floppy 45's that would tear out of the pages of Guitar For The Practicing Musician. I remember one of them being Joe Satriani playing a live rendition of Red House. Those were the last records I ever played.

I know an artist who cut up and glued together a bunch of those

Thanks for that clarification. I looked and couldn't find it because I didn't know the proper name. Also, it wasn't Red House, it was the Power Cosmic/Crush of Love. Also (also), it was Guitar Player, not GFTPM:

Man, I was way off. Derp. I smoked a lotta hash back then.

I found the Red House version I was combining with Satch in my head. It was over 30 years ago so things get a little fuzzy.

I'm kinda thinking it was live. It's an Alan Douglas production so it might have been this one:
