11 Great Non-Metal Albums for Metalheads | (Neil Fallon's Picks)

Came across this list from Neil and it looks like an amazing list to dig through. I'll link the video below if you want to get Neil's thoughts on the album.

Anyone have recommendations on where to start? Or albums you'd add to the "non-metal albums for metal heads?"

  • Bo Hansson - Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings (1970)
  • Funkadelic - Maggot Brain (1971)
  • Dr. John - Gris Gris (1968)
  • Tangerine Dream - Ricochet (1975)
  • Bert Jansch - Jack Orion (1966)
  • Michel Chion - Requiem (1978)
  • Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger (1975)
  • John Carpenter - Lost Themes (2015)
  • John Lee Hooker - Burning Hell (1964)
  • Ali Farka Toure - The Source (1992)
  • Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda (1971)

I'm not familiar with the Michel Chion album or the John Carpenter album but of the other 9, which I am familiar with, the Funkadelic album is the only one that makes sense to me as far as a recommendation for a metal head.

Dr. John - Gris Gris (1968)
One of my favorite records but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to either metalheads or normals

He explained the rationale for why a metal head would like them. Do you just not agree?

I found his reasoning to be a bit of a stretch on most of his picks. I actually laughed when he mentioned the Willie Nelson album.
