Selling your band name and rights to your Band Manager?
 

I'm writing a story where my Protagonist, I'll call him Alex is a Band Manager and Sole Band Songwriter has a VERY successful Band called Cake Cream, in fact, they are so successful that they have three successful albums within a year, won 6 Grammys in one day, but had to give back 5 Grammys due to them not being eligible for them until next year, are the wealthiest Band in the world after a massive payout from a shady Record Label that tried to screw them over but ended up having to pay them 500 Million each, Karma, :D.

The Drummer for Cake Cream ended up quitting after he nearly got murdered multiple times and Cake Cream decided they would ALL quit in solidarity. They knew their income would stop since they quit and Alex decided to offer them 100 Million each to sell the Cake Cream name and rights to him and they agreed and he paid them 100 Million each. Do you guys think selling the name and rights to a Band Manager/Songwriter would be a good idea in real life? Would you guys do this in real life?

If the manager is also the sole songwriter for the group, then he would already have all of the rights to their songs so the other members would just be hired musicians. If one of the other members started the group before the manager/songwriter joined, and that member had the legal rights to the group name, then the songwriter/manager would have to buy the band name from that member if he wanted to continue using it. If I was that band member and owned the rights to the band name but didn't have any rights to any of the music royalties, and was offered that kind of money for the rights to the band name, I'd take that buyout in a heartbeat.

Did Cake Cream dump Axl Rose already?

:o: Okay, you caught me. Alex is really Axl Rose. :o: Cake Cream (Billy, Andy, Mike, James, Jimmy) didn't dump him but they did quit Cake Cream and wondered about not bringing in any more income. So, Axl was like,"I'll pay you 100 Million each for the Cake Cream name and rights," and they agreed and he paid them 100 Million each, or 500 Million to buy the Cake Cream name and rights. ;)

Cake Cream was already established and a Band before Axl/Alex even met them. They were just opening acts and did little gigs such as playing at bars , restaurant/nightclubs, etc before he met them and became their Manager and made them huge mega successful, wildly famous, mega wealthy. He didn't discover them or anything like that, he just made them very wealthy, successful, famous. ;)

Hmm. Izzy Stradlin from Guns N'Roses took a huge payout when he quit Guns N'Roses in the early 1990's and was miffed that Axl, Slash, and Duff didn't want to give him equal pay to come back to the 2016-Present Reunion. He said something like,"If I got equal pay, I'd be back in a heartbeat, but they refuse to give me equal pay, so I'm not going to be part of the Reunion." I guess the big payout he took to leave Guns N'Roses was the right thing to do at the time, not so much in the future. :/
