How do you know?

Where did you find the longed after definition that so many have searched for unsuccessfully.

covle 06-27-2004 01:33 AM

Thrice 06-27-2004 07:53 AM

See post on "Real Emo Bands"

Emo was a genre and era roughly between 1994-99. The bands listed by some played in this period and had similar characteristics of introspective/melodic music. Some say it was a spin off from hardcore/post-hardcore but what's for certain is that it has some qualities of that also. I'm not really willing to say these characteristics of emo partly because everyone argues about it/I don't now all about it.

The emo era is just like the grunge era...sorta. It reached a peak and now is declining/dead. There are still a few bands linked to this "emo" scene but now its being replaced with other bands who play catchy, sappy/predictable music, where ONLY the critics and people, NOT the bands, lable as emo.

You know what band you should look into?... BackStreet Boys They too wrote a WHOLE album on realtionship failure and so did N'Sync. So these bands must be emo then right?

Ha ha, you are the lamest person ever to visit the forums... It is unbelievable how you speak of everything in terms of labels....No one is even held within a label, genius. Good for metal, im not downing it, but you are poorly representing it. If you dislike my style of music, thats cool, but dont be an ass about it. For absolutely no reason you chose to be an *******, and you will end up paying for it. I am sorry that you cannot view music as music, but as genres. Sorry you can't view life as life. You have serious problems and I hope your music helps you through them. your problems may have to do with death, and metal helps you through that, whereas my music may follow topics such as relationships where they may help me. So in general music is music, you are just EXTREMELY close minded and shallow. Good luck with your future bitching.

covle 06-30-2004 10:21 PM

two points thrice!
dude, do not assume that just because we are punks, or listen to punk, that we are not informed in any other genre. i used to be a serious metal head and know a fair bit about it.

But hey! look on the bright side, theirs always tomorrow to kill yourself, right everyone!!!

*Yea!!!!*

*never felt more lonely at 12:38 am*

Edit : HEAVY METAL TAKES TALENT? AND U DONT THINK EMOCORE HAS TALENT? lemme guess, you can write lyrics like Chris Conely from Saves the Day, and play guitar like Shawn and Paul from BTBAM? riiiight

covle 07-03-2004 10:51 PM

there is a lot of talent in metal dont say there isnt. but there are slightly different skills needed. the guitars are different, the vocals are a lot different, but they are both still an expression of emotion....albeit sometimes "tough-lets all act suicidal" emotions. but metal has a large audience and as all music continually does, is evolving. saying it takes no skill is fairly arrogant and naive

Tekron 07-04-2004 10:46 AM

i like hardcore and metal and stuff. it doesnt have as much talent as emocore. this is because its the same music, with different lyrics. emo generally has more talent lyrically. emocore is a clash between 2 awesome groups of music. metalcore and emo. i've never heard anything more self-pleasuring. its an awesome group of music. although.

metal = less talent, BECAUSE they sing songs like "sweet cherry pie" and stuff like that, most of their songs don't involve lyrically talent.

edit : i didnt say it takes "no talent", it does. its just talent through intsruments. but like i said, emocore is the same as metalcore, just with emo lyrics, and they both take talent for the instruments.

covle 07-05-2004 03:35 AM

again i disagree. but thats ok because you guys are all bias-due to this being an emo room and all. people on metal boards would be saying the opposite, if the werent tools and saying that metal is the only good type of music etc etc. but metal lyrics do take skill, i mean sure there are stereotypical bands in metal that write that stuff you guys are discussing, but there are also a lot of bands that arent just saying that, that are writing good lyrics and music.
