They were cornerstones of the experimental music scene that was going on in New York during the early to mid '90s, thus the Cat Power connection. They never had anything to do with hardcore punk rock. They had more in common with free jazz if anything.

Yeah but the people there seem to be mostly about modern "indie" anyway.

Having now heard a little God Is My Co-Pilot I can verify that they kick Lower East Side experimental music ass and are totally unique. I recommend Sex Is For Making Babies to anybody.:)
