Don Martin 3

Already been mentioned on this board a few times. So awesome that they deserve their own thread. Their discography consists of a 7", 3 way 7" split with , and an LP, Fire as a Metaphor. I've been told that the liner notes say that Fire as a Metaphor is 5 tracks but I honestly don't care what any god damn ebay fiend has to say track 4 flows perfectly. In fact track 4 is of Angry Son proportions and if Don Martin 3 were more popular it would be across the board considered the greatest emo song ever. Because it is. It's a shame that you'll never own anything they ever put out unless you're willing to fork out 20 dollars for a 7". I'm sure these kids would rather you just spin there tracks for free :)

Fire As a Metaphor could possibly be the greatest thing to happen to music.

I have those Fire As A Metaphor tracks and I only have 4 tracks on it, but I can't really pick a favorite between 2 and 4.

Split 7" with Moonraker and Hope Springs Eternal.
Members of DM3 are now in Wilderness, another absolutely amazing band.

(fire as a metaphor) late night collision, two machines cross paths unexpectedly. Oddly, their engines conitued to run individually, as if oblivious to the fact they had become one mangled unit, this wasn't supposed to happen.

to watch crippled hands create a fire, to sketch an arrow, to burn beside her. The blood of pattern, the sound of eggs drop, our lips of old, oh how these robust hips burn.

I'm seeing long strips of wheat, and dry winds, I'm seeing that you're no longer alive, and that I hold against you. I'm seeing anxious lines of automobile traffic as far as the eye can see. But I still can't see the light at the end of this tunnel.

She whistled the tune, her lips explode into a smile, CONNECTION, CONNECT

If only you could see the halo over the field tonight.. If only you could see how wonderful the twisting fog is, and how it is making me feel close to you. Motors hum, equipment switches on and off, valves open and close but the truth rings clear WE HAVE A DESTINATION. Friend. let us swim in the aforementioned lake and feast from fish from it's icy waters. Let us for a time, if only for a time, make it's steep bank our home upon which to dig a pit, in which to build a fire. (fire as a metaphor).... they passed by, waving arms im gestures... I continue on my way, remembering how she could smell like rain. She smelled like rain.

i dunno, i might have not a soul, but i still feel Indian Summer or Julia more than i feel Don Martin 3. i might need to listen a little more

chickendude 06-26-2007 08:54 PM

There is no song more absolutely heartfelt than Katahdn!

pheurton 06-27-2007 07:38 AM

They're ok, I don't think nothing of them tbh.

swim 07-30-2007 08:38 AM

there's a planet called Don Martin 3

...in Futurama. Which makes me wonder if it's coincidence or a dual reference.

The Dave 07-30-2007 03:09 PM

When did the band form?

swim 07-30-2007 04:20 PM

around '94 or something like that. The LP came out in 96.

Inuzuka Skysword 07-30-2007 05:40 PM

I just listened to their discography for the first time and I have to say that the 11 minute song may be one of the best songs I have heard.

einermusssterben 08-06-2007 05:16 PM

zu gut :)

chickendude 08-07-2007 01:26 AM

Ja, ich denke, dass sie am Besten sind :)

asiankaos 09-25-2007 06:17 AM

I'm so happy I got to see this band in Atlanta. They were amazing. That song transistor off that split is pretty sick to.

Don Martin was an artist for MAD, but the "3" in the titles are just a coincidental

Early nineties is when they formed. I believe the full length was written in response to being broken up with. It was played live for the first time @ a house party basically to the lead singer's ex (who was in the crowd) Story goes she was moved to tears and emotionally messed up over the anguish she caused the dude. I dated a young woman ten years ago when I lived in St. Augustine who knew the guys personally, which is how I heard the story. One of my all time favorites, but unfortunately I don't have/ can't find a copy. Any leads?

monkeyking 12-15-2009 12:40 PM

Oh... The Don Martin 3 referred to in the Band title was a Professor @ Flagler College in St. Augustine whom one of the members found specifically influential.

I hear the real deal will cost you a few limbs. I'm not sure if any record is worth more than $20. Not even awesome 500 presses.

my friend who lives in florida now has this record. he says its worth a lot. I unfortunately could never get into this band so in my eyes, its not worth anything lol.

indietrash3 01-06-2010 01:49 PM

Agreed! Lucky enough to own the LP.

You're the same guy from AP.net, right?

indietrash3 01-25-2010 02:55 PM

srsly? WANT THAT LP. never seen it on for sale anywhere. maybe I haven't been looking enough.

yeah I'm registered there as well. I prefer tp over both of these forums, but it's not active at all, so I'm here as well. and on mx, b9, vlv... you name it. I probably *at least* lurk there.

Veganrob 07-16-2010 07:51 AM

I just joined this second to express my love for Don Martin Three. They are even better than Indian Summer. Absolutely perfect in evEry way. If anyone has the 7" for sale drop me a message as that is the record that i am missing. Desperate for it, especially as it has their best tune ever on it!!!
I would also be willing o trade for it.
peace, rob x

GravitySlips 07-16-2010 08:00 AM

Their discography was brilliant, I got it from this thread 3 years ago or something. My computer got wiped about a year after though and I've not heard it since, which sucks - I'm gonna have to seek it out again somehow.
